The "Test of Time" is usually a "test" in which an object, person, or subject is discussed or critiqued over a long period of time, but many people still have faith in the object/person regardless. In this case, the Bible. It has gone through much controversy, but MANY people still hold to their faith, and it is still widely distributed, even after two thousand years.Quote:

Alot of people believe in God because they want to live forever, because they are scared of their souls being tortured for eternity. Having people follow beliefs out of fear or promise of reward is a huge problem I have with organised religion.
I don't disprove Jesus, mainly because I don't care wether he was real or not. What's important to taken from the bible is its main moral messages. A book that teaches via examples. To take it in a literal sense given the nature of translation would also seem to me abit wrong.
I have faith in myself, and the world around me. I maintain awareness with not goal or rules, except to carry the idea that I am a sponge, and while I don't know what will happen after I "die", I will do all I can to abosorb asmuch about the world as possible as it appears to me. To travel through life with goals. I don't think I need a book to teach me how to not increase suffering in the world.
Just.Be.Cool. Simple words that should be branded into the backs of criminals necks ;)
Just my 3 cents, but perhaps if so many people still believe in the bible, there might be somthing to it? Im not saying its all 100% fact, but at the very least its a good book that preaches good morals (not the ones that people twist into political agendas) and decency towards our fellow man (im not saying all christians are decent, but at least the new testament preaches it)
As for atheism, it is pretty outnumbered as the VAST majority believe in some higher power, and if the atheists banded together, the christians, jews, muslims, buddhists, hindus, druids, and hippys that worship weed would band together and WTFPWN everyone. If religions fight so fiercly against each other, god help anyone that gets all religions against them ;)
It seems that for people that hate religion forced upon them, you guys are quick to do the same thing with atheism.
also, JDmarc, it isnt a good idea to try to back up your beliefs with scripture when arguing with atheists. Thats like the government using anti weed propaganda in an argument with anyone from this site, rofl.

yea about the test of time.....first of all the original text that the bible is TRANSLATED in could be interpereted in MANY ways...also think about language and how it evolves even over a 10 year period of time....now the bible has been rewriten-retranslated many many times by MAN and writen in their own interpitation ...no doubt they all have the same basic message and im not saying that that message is wrong but come on now all religion requires you to have faith im just saying i belive in science and fact and proof not childrens storys and furthermore orginized religion is responsible for more eveil and war in the world and history than its ever done good

Christianity is nothing more than ancient paganism rolled up into a snowball. The supposed resurrection, holy trinity, and judgment all share their roots in various "primitive" religions. It is astonishing how often people winnow out what they like about the bible and completely ignore all the evil shit that is written as well. People obey the ten commandments written in Exodus 20, but rarely do you hear people preach about '"proper" slavery ethics, selling daughters into prostitution, and killing disobedient children as written in Exodus 21.
exodus is old testament, the christian book is the new testament. that is what makes christianity special, and different then judiasm.
I thought the Romans invented Christianity to oppress people and kill those who did not go along?
If time is the determining factor, then Xianity can't be true, other religions have survived longer than Xianity. I doubt someone of faith would call another religion "retarded" but obviously they can't be right in someone's mind if they belong to a different faith. I've watched zeitgeist a few times (all 3 parts, although the 2nd part was interesting I still don't believe 9/11 was planned by our government), it is pretty nicely put together. Everything is so predictable and yes history does repeat itself as long as people let it. Anyone who does not follow the popular belief is thought to be a nutcase, and the people just continue on with their extremely biased beliefs.
