Vegetarian vegans...raw food eaters
So, i myself am not a vegitarian. Still i try not to eat a lot of red meat b/c it makes my stomach too full....i usually stick with fish or chicken and lots of veggies. Don't get me wrong, i do eat the occasional burger...yummmy, lol
I want to know if anyone here is very PRO or ANTI on the subject. Most people i've meet with this life style are very...erm....not to offend, but, intense about it. Kinda like a vegi beater, haha. Do you peoples think dropping the meat and dairy would better a persons' life/health?

Well I do know a few vegetarians and two vegans but the main reason is because they dont believe in killing animals for food because they have just as much a right to be alive as we do but its however you see it really, everyone has their own opinion some people dont eat any animals apart from fish and some wont even drink milk or anything (vegan) but one thing i have NEVER seen is a overweight or even slightly fatv vegetarian, Im sure everyone has to agree with me on this one, I would say that yes you would be a lot healthier but your body also needs some of the things you get from meet especially red meet. I tried becoming a vegetarian once but its not as easy you start to miss all the foods most vegetarians started when they were small raised that way by their parent(s).

I've seriously considered becoming a vegetarian after hearing the horror stories of how the animals are treated. I love vegetables, and I don't really eat much meat anyway, so I don't think it would be that difficult. I think the hardest part would be just getting use to not eating the same things anymore.
I definetly couldn't be a vegan, because I love cheese...on just about anything really;)

I think that vegetarianism as an ecological goal is a very sound approach. I don't really try to get involved wiht the cruelty arguments- I think we should be most concerned about sustainability.
I'm concerned that meat farming isn't sustainable. The amount of land and feed that it takes to raise a cow could far more efficiently be used to grow soybeans, vegetables, and HEMP!!! :D
I think that among animal protein sources, yoghurt and eggs are AMAZINGLY nutritious and still ecologially sound.
While I absolutely LOVE steak (I made the bext ribeyes I've ever eaten this week for a special occasion), I consider it a bit of a treat, and try to use black beans, cheese, and eggs for my daily protein sources, with a bit of chicken and fish here and there.

Vegetarian vegans...raw food eaters
I'm always amazed at how many people like the idea of vegetarianism but how few actually bother to use that opinion when they decide what they want to put in their mouths.
I have not eaten meat, nor had the desire to, in many years. Once you actually live the vegetarian life, you realize just how disgusting that crap is.

I love meat so much that i have sex with it before eating.
Eat a steak veggie people!!!

Onequestion How old are you :)?

^^ lol.
as for me i wouldn't want to become a vegetarian because i eat meat everyday whether it be beef, pork, chicken or the occasional fish. that lifestyle just wouldn't fit me thats all really.

oh and don't cook the shit out fo it either... that ruins it... the farthest i'll ever go (atleast with beef) is medium... if it ain't bleedin' it ain't worth eatin'

Man, now I wanna BBQ. I figure by eating cow, pigs, chicken, deer, just means that us as the human race are superiour. Its just survival of the fittest.

i'm pretty opinionated on the subject of meat consumption. i am not, have never been, nor will ever be a vegetarian. if people dont want to eat meat, thats their choice, but i will never understand it. i live in rural PA, my dad used to raise sheep so i've eaten many a lamb. i hunt a lot, so i've eaten many a deer, grouse, squirrel, pheasnt, so on and so forth. i like fish and pork and chickens too....hell i like it all. i agree with stinky in that it does take a lot of resources to raise a cow, but beef probably isnt my favorite critter to eat, in my opinion venison is a hell of a lot better than beef, and deer are freaking everywhere, if you've got a mini-van, you've got all you need to be eating deer.

Interesting post thoughtwriter!
I'm not sure if it's the weather or what, but I've been eating a pretty vegetarian, sometimes even vegan diet. This veggie kick started a few weeks ago when I opened up the fridge and the only things that looked appetizing were meatless. I am thinking about perhaps adopting a veggie lifestyle on a more permanent basis since I began seeing my already healthy body tighten up with no change to my exercise routine! Even my boyfriend has commented that I look better, my skin is softer and has not broken out at all, and he thinks I taste better too ;)
Anyway, I'm not militant about vegetarianism, probably never will be, I just like feeling healthier is all!

on a serious note, people were meant to eat meat and plants...cavemen did it. the only reason people ever go vegetarian now is because of PETA and the lies they spread. if it werent for people sitting there all day crying over an animal then we wouldnt have any vegetarians. because the people who would cry about eating animals would have died back in the day.

I don't consume dairy - I have an intolerance to casein, a protein in milk.
Cow's milk is for baby calves, not humans.

I'm not here to offend people. . .
That being said, I think that whatever reason one chooses to be a vegetarian/live the lifestyle, it is a positive step for their own health, for the environment, for the animals etc. etc.

Eating meat comes natural. I am not vegetarian or vegan. "vegans and vegetarians are all skinny because no one is born vegetarian so if someone is overweight chances are they won't choose to be vegetarian"!?!?! I eat alot of Japaneses cuisine though I am American to every extent. I ate a local sushi bar and fell in love with it. i usually make my own sushi and eat seaweed all the time. I also drink lots I mean lots of tea and drink soy milk daily. I like to watch what I eat and usually eat food for what i get out of it not how good it tastes. <-- Good thing to keep in mind

I've been eating meat all my 46 years, 47 in 8 days. I think people in different social circles have their own ways, their own choices. I have no problem with that as long as they don't force their way on me. I will never force my ways on anyone. Anybody wanna come over for grilled burgers and a brownie? If not burgers, T-Bones rule. I believe animals were put on this earth to serve us in whatever way we deem necessary.
-
Vegetarian vegans...raw food eaters
But you are forcing your ways on the animals...
Anywho, I'm not one to tell all the meat eaters that they're wrong or stupid for eating the things they eat (even though a lot of them call me wrong or stupid for being a vegetarian). I realize I'm not going to change other people's diets, and I'm certainly not going to bring down the meat industry, but I have my ethical and aesthetic reasons for being a vegetarian and I'm not afraid to express my opinion if the subject is brought up.

There are unusualy high methane levels in the atmosphere.
People are blaming the massive cow farms where they are bred to be slaughtered and turned into steak, chopmeat & whatever else.
so a vegan then asks what am i doing to help the situation, so i tell him plain and simple.
Im eatin the fuckin cows.
mmm mmm delicious.
some comedian said that but i forgot who..

Well, I'm far from the hard-core animal rights nuts. Even though I feel strongly about my vegetarianism, I can definitely sense a lot of craziness in the animal rights community. I have no problem with experimenting on animals for science, or taking over animals' habitat for human needs, or eliminating invasive animal species like the Asian carp. I think it's okay to kill animals if it provides a good enough benefit for humans, but that's a judgment call. I personally don't think me filling my tummy is a big enough benefit to be justifiable if I have other options, but I can appreciate that most people don't agree with me on that.

I understand the philosophy. Animals can feel pain, therefore it is immoral to kill them for human pleasure. An animals preference to live outweighs a humans preference to kill it.
Having said that, i am not a vegetarian because my taste buds prefer meat as opposed to vegetables. I personally do not kill animals, therefore i find it justifiable to eat them. I wouldn't want good food to go to waste when there are starving people in Africa and anywhere else in the world.

all the posts were great and very informative on where you guys stand. I love my soy shakes and such, BUT i have to admit....that bite of steak and eggs i cooked for my hubby was to die for, lol. I grew up in south texas, where we had animals slaughtered for food. I've eaten deer, its a little to rich tasting, i cant like it, yuk. For the past few years i've been staying away from pork though. I do have so say that when i fill my diet with proteins from veggies, I feel a hell of a lot better.
Has anyone read the book 'Diet by Blood Type'? It talks about how we should have a certain diet by the type of blood we have....it goes back to our ancestryal roots....
google it...its a pretty good read

Vegetarian vegans...raw food eaters
Dude, venison is awesome.
With that said, I have an all out philosophy. I choose to eat healthy, but I'm not going to deprive myself of the pleasure of eating animals from time to time. It's simply the nature of animals to have their place on the food chain. While we are up there on the food chain, some carnivores would not be debating whether to eat a human. They would just do it.

Vegetarian vegans...raw food eaters
i havent been reading the responses to thsi thread but...
i have been a vegetarian for about 2 and a half years. at first i ate fish too, but i have been slowly weaning myself off. i am a evgetarian for health, moral, and ecological reasons. i do it for my body, for my fellow animal friends and for the environment. it is very true that a lot of veg folks are admantly one-sided about the issue and often bigoted and self righteous. i like to think that i am not one of those veggies. while i get offended when someone serves me a turkey burger thinking that it is vegetarian, i dont get offended when other people eat meat around me. i defend my position with educated counterarguements, but i am not about to convert every passer-by that i see with a hot dog. vegetarians and vegans are typically the kinds of folks, like me for example, that feel very strongly about certain things and are ready to voice thier opinions. most veggies believe that NOBODY should eat meat, which is idealistic and close-minded. "eat what you please but please let me eat" is how i feel about the situation, tho i am always ready to fill an eager mind with the benefits of going veg.
vegetariansm/veganism is a LIFESTYLE choice. it means more than not eating meat/animal products. it is a commitment for life that requires big changes in some of the most important things in life. but it also entails things like a commitment to healthy eating (you can't always be veg and eat pizza and soda all the time) and a lot of times commitment to a more 'green' approach to one's lifestyle. just not eating meat, some may consider, is not complete vegetarianism.
