I like southern rap.
I'm from around NYC so I like the East Coast shit, but if it's good I'll listen to it. Snap music has killed southern rap though.
Snap is good to listen to while cruisin smokin a blunt but it lacks substance and creativity. I wouldn't even really consider it music, just something that sounds decent in the background.Quote:

I don't know who is my CURRENT favorite rapper, but throughout the years, I have to say Snoop Dogg has been my favorite rapper of all time. Although he's gone soft throughout his career at times.

Then in no particular order would be Biggie, Jadakiss, Tupac, Meth, Red, Styles, Big L, Outkast, Dre, Snoop, Game, rest of Wu, Cube, Talib Kweli, Common, Pun, AZ, KRS, Luda, among a few others.
And to me there is absolutely no difference between 'underground' and 'mainstream'...it's all music, but if you insist...Andre Nickatina, Akrobatik, Mr. Lif, Dead Prez.

The independent rappers were for the most part raised in the suburbs, they're smart, insightful, have a variety of topics, etc... It's appreciated by your more than average hip hop head
Like the haze plant which was raised meticulously in excellent conditions... Your hardcore pot head enjoys the purp the most, cause it's clearly better right?
And the dirt? Well, it's raised in piss poor lighting and accidentally got Windex sprayed on it a few times when you was cleaning the windows... Kind of like gangster rap... Who enjoys the dirt weed? Your beginner pot smoker... And who enjoys gangster rap? Your average hip hop head...
And who cares how good Lil' Wayne is... being the best mainstream rapper still makes you the smartest retard... Still sucks...

Basically said that TO ME, I don't care what you call it...mainstream, independant, underground, blah blah blah...if I like it..I like it, if it's good, it's good. I think it's immature to like ONLY underground or ONLY mainstream just based on stereotypes...mainstream=gangsta rap...that's dumb, a lot of underground artists spit 'gangsta rap', it's a genre of rap, it doesn't mean 'mainstream' LOL, if anything, it's the opposite of mainstream. My favorites that I listed are because I like them, but I also think they are the best at what they do, better than all types of artists...that post might be the dumbest one I've read on this site...you compare Purple Haze [which doesn't exist lol] to underground LOL! If anything, the one's that made it are the dank buds, and the independant artists are the swaggity swagg trying to make a name, but can't quite get there [I know this isn't always the case].
Most artists were underground at one point obviously, but a lot were just smarter than others and turned their talent into a business opportunity. Not selling out, just being smart, why be broke or work a shitty job?...you don't call an artist who sells their painting's a sell out, just a good business man/woman.

"7 Minute Freestyle" with Jay-Z is a work of art...the flow is water through a hose and the multi's are ridiculous. Some pretty graphic, violent lyrics, but the detail is what makes it what it is. Then of course "Ebonics", and his first album is one of the best. He's a great example of one who can't really be categorized. His first album wasn't a commercial success, but that's only because it didn't have the resources to promote it. His second album was certified Platinum in a month with a few #1 hits...does that make him mainstream/commercial?...I don't think so.Quote:
