Apologies and offer to buy another?
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
buy them a new bunny for starters....
then apologize profusely
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
^^^^
With all the others.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
Ya, just apologise. Done and done.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
How is your relationship in general w these neighbors?? If they know you are a good guy and you feel bad about it and know the circumstances about why your dog was out they will be more likely to accept your apologies and a new bunny when they are ready for one.
I'm sorry, that sucks, no one wants to have that on their conscience.
I've had the yard guy leave the side gate open before and I had no idea until until I saw the dog frolicking in the street, TG nothing like that happened. But anyway, these things do happen and you weren't beingneglectful. I hope it all works out ok.

***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
maybe some public lashings are in order for your poochie....
Totally joking...
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
either buy a new bunny for them or throw them some money for a new one and maybe a little extra for damages since im sure they were probably attached to it.

yeah youre definately responsible, but i wouldnt just pick them up a new bunny.
someone suggested you talk to them and figure out what theyd like to do, so go ahead and do that.
ps how did the dog get to their bunny anyways? was it just frollicking in their front yard or something?

***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***

obviously the owners did! darrrrgh :)
edit: seemed like the dog wanted it as well.

***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
First of all, find out who delivered the package, report him to the company, and then go with everyone else's advice. Dumbass shouldn't have left the gate open if it was closed in the first place.

Well they don't get as big as Great Danes but there are giant rabbits. It's a breed. Flemmish rabbits, sometimes called Flemmish Giant rabbits, do grow rather large. Check this one out!

Danky.
Dude.
C'mon, now.
Please take care of that before your dog gets hurt, or hurts another creature.

I saw a couple in person at the State Fair one year. I thought I was tripping for a moment there! They are pretty cool though. I wouldn't mind having one for a pet. I'd teach it to walk on a leash and then walk it through the park where all the stoner kids hang out just to mess with them.

Many years ago i had a rabbit named Flopsy. One day my parents told me she had run away...
Did you have anything to do with this?

basically if my dog goes off of my property without me walking him animal control is called. everytime they come they just bring him back to my house and i laugh. the worst thing hes done was mess up a dog who came in my yard lol.
but really i do take car of him but my neighbors are just pricks
its probly because hes a pitbull:cool:

by giant i mean a yard layed out and 25lbs and they are hella pissed they said there is nothing i can do to make it right and that i cant replace it because have had it since it was the size of his fist. I really feel bad about this but he wont even talk to me
there gate and the shed they kept the bunnny in were left open
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
I hope you gave your dog a good ass kicking for doing that.
I would talk to them first, apologize, A LOT, and offer to buy them another bunny.
For now though, I would be giving that dog a nice punishment for the time being.
Learn from this mistake. Don't blame this on other people as you should have checked to see if the gate was closed. Don't say, "well everyday for the past so and so and no problems" that's why it's called an accident. They do happen, and you, the owner of this dog, is your reponsibility and your fault.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
no point punishing a dog after they've already done something, they wont understand what they've done wrong.
take away it's toys?

Ha, my teacher has that picture on her wall.

I agree, there is no way to punish the dog after the fact. You have to do it right after he comitted the act.
As for the OP, I would obviously take care of all expenses they had for the vet. Let them know you are sorry, and will be there when they are ready to talk. Dont get too pushy, chances are they wont want to talk to you right now. When the time comes offer to buy a new bunny.

By my guess this is a domesticated dog, not a wild dog, and a dog living within a household, is domesticated.
If someone accidently runs down a child in the street, it's only an accident, so why punish them?
I guess I'm the only one who feels the dog did something wrong. I suppose we should all let a dog run wild. It's a good thing it was a bunny, and not a hyperactive child, huh. ;)

Yeah, leave the dog out of it. If I were a dog, and I saw a giant bunny...dinner is served.
I would punish the dog if he didn't go after the bunny. What if the bunny was a threat? LOL.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
No one is saying that we should let dogs do whatever they want, but its too late for punishment. The dog is just not going to comprehend what he did wrong. If he had the bunny in front of the dog, and it was right after the attack he could punish all he wants.
You cant tell me that you believe dogs are as smart as humans (unless youre a PETA fuckhead), so comparing them to us would be like apples an oranges.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
Nochowderforyou, it's hard to say that the dog did something wrong. After all, it's brain is no more than a jumble of instincts, urges and perceptions. It doesn't have the necessary, umm, stuff to make judgement calls and it definately doesn't have any morals. :p

Yes, but with training, it can resist acting on his extincts. With my dog, I can call him, no matter what he's doing, and he'll come back. It's up to the owner to train it.

Sadly, some dogs actually work harder than humans who choose not to work and leech off others, so yes, in some cases, dogs are smarter than people out there who are abled bodies, have a brain, but choose to do nothing with themselves.
I'm not a PETA person, but I have more respect for animals than I do of human beings. Humans beings are capable of making their own choices, and look at the choices we make.
Just because other beings aren't as smart as other beings, doesn't make them a lower form of life. If that were true, I guess handicapped people are no good to us, so why have them around? We might as well just get rid of everything that isn't as smart as us special humans.
It's embrassing when a handicapped person can work 40 hours a week, a dog can aid the blind, while us humans, are killing off this world and everything on it.

***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
def dont punish ur dog now. if ur gona discipline a dog u have to do it right after the fact. for example if it shits on the carpet u make sure he is lookin right at the shit as you punish him so he know why hes being punished, and dont wait a few days thats just wrong. its a dog. if u punish him now he wont kno why and he will probly just become scarred of u and that would suck
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
you cant punish the dog for what it did. i dont care who you are , dogs are gonna go after bunnies if theres no one around to tell it not to. punishing that dog would be like punishing an infant for shitting its pants.
people that 'punish' their dogs shouldnt have dogs in the first place.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
usually dog toys are around the same size as a small bunny. so the dog probably thought it was a chew toy.
-
***HELP*** OMG!!! WTF!!! ***Do I do?***
Uh, did you read the thread? This was a GIANT bunny.
