Apple Pipes Made Easy
Like all great inventions, this is so freaking easy! And you donâ??t have to suck aluminum foil into your lungs.
Materials:
1) Apple with the stem removed (use needle-nose pliers if you have to, but get it out!)
2) A PaperMate (or very similar) pen
Thatâ??s it! (Although you may need a set of needle nose pliers for stem removal or to separate the pen.)
Directions:
1) Take the cap off the pen and then take the pen apart by pulling and twisting on the top end (you can see a joint there). The ink shouldnâ??t fly out, but be careful with it anyway. Use pliers if you canâ??t separate the two.
2) Use the long, skinny ink storage tube (the ink stem) to poke a â??stemâ? hole into the apple. Make sure you donâ??t poke all the way through unless you want a carb at the bottom. Just push it into the core of the apple. Take it slowly and hold it at the base to avoid crushing the tube and sending ink everywhere. If the apple is too hard, start the hole by using a narrow key or a paper clipâ??anything sharp and skinny. Be sure to just break the skin of the apple so the hole stays small.
3) Use the other part of the pen, the body, to make a hole in the apple. Push the flat (not the open) end into the apple, making a wider tunnel to the core of the apple. This will then intersect with the stem hole youâ??ve already made. Basically, youâ??re taking the whole idea behind a pipeâ??s elbow joint and putting it all inside an apple.
4) Clear the stem hole again by pushing the ink tube through it, again making sure not to push too hard and not to make another stem hole.
5) Put your lips up to the larger hole on the side of the apple and test it out. The intake should be fast but not too fast. If you struggle to get any air, then you should repeat steps 3 and 4. If that still doesnâ??t work, the tunnels you bore are not intersecting well enough if at all.
6) If the hole on the top of the apple is small enough, then you donâ??t need a screen of any sort. Just make sure you suck slowly as itâ??s not a bong and plant matter may get sucked through if it's not trapped in the core.
7) Pinch some herb into a little ball and light up. (But watch out for your bangs and nose hairs!)
Tips:
Select apples that donâ??t have stems and have nice, natural bowls at the top.
Wash your apple, especially the bowl.
Chill your apple between uses. This makes it last longer, cools down your tokes, and reduces the amount of apples you need to make.
Clean the bowl out by pushing any blockage down through the hole using the penâ??s ink stem or another like tool. Be careful not to produce another holeâ??apples are soft!
Eat your apple before it gets too funky.
Be kind enough to light the bowl for beginners or they might end up smoking their hair!
