the space race..

ok so i'm sitting here watching this show... and i'm finally clued in on something i NEVER knew....

the act of us putting a man in space was a direct result of the cold fucking war!

first the nazi's had a V2 rocket (HUGE) then the russians developed a missle (that was never used, and quite honestly if it had been, the world would have been ALOT diffrent then we know it today) shortly after this, the russians put the first sputnik into space, then following with a dog on it.... the american's of course durring this time HAD to prove they were atleast as good as the russians (to lessen threats of having that devesating missle launched on them) and put a man in space....

i never knew this shit... o.0 i knew of the space race, but i never knew what caused it all... what made the govt. think "hey, we gotta put a person in space"...

it was just another (as quoted by george carlin) 'my dick is bigger' contest...

I hope this isnt off topic..but in my high-drunk haze. I sometimes pondor what it would be like to be shot into space like that, what an incredible rush it must be. Being strapped into a rocket going into the unknown... Just an incredible accomplishment by man kind.. Just brilliant.

This made me laugh. Probably cause I'm high and in class today we were discussing the fact that most of us will be involved in the next race to the moon (aeronautical, mechanical, and materials engineers) either directly or indirectly. But then my teacher said it was scheduled for 2034 or something. And I was like....but its a race....if its scheduled won't they just schedule something before us??? :wtf:
