First time grower need advice on seed & soil
hello Everyone,
I have been a smoker for 10 years and finally have decided to grow for my personal supplies as i m sick of smoking bad weed.
I live in Florida and I have an upstairs bedroom with balcony / outdoor patio. there is no close neighbor but I would not want my plant to grow higher than 4ft. they can go as wide as they want but not high. (indicia ?)
By the way I am only looking for personal supplies so one seed would do it I will be very happy with an oz yield for now.
I don't want to mess with setting up lights and vents so I decided to go outdoor. I would like to ask for any help/links/advise/pics i can get
Here are the instruction i m going to follow.
But still have these questions
1) what size of pot I shud get ,any houshold jar/bottle i can use?
2) can i buy ready to go soil? what shoud i ask for at homedepot?
3) Where can i learn more about male/female i m not clear about it.
4) any place where pictures are posted for every stage would be very helpfull.
Thanks a lot - will post pics

1)For every foot, 1 gallon
2)Tamatoe, but I'm sure other people could give you better advice on this one
3)Basically when it is time to flower the plant will show sex, male or female, Male will have little balls, female won't.
4) I can't really help you on this one, look for someones grow log.

I'll keep it simple, straightforward and specific for you. You want to buy a minimal number of seeds, preferably already female so you don't have to grow more than one at a time to get a female, and you want a high potency plant that flowers fasts and stay short and squat.
Seed boutique, Female seeds, maroc, 4 pack.
it will only cost you 25$ plus handling, I reccomend never sending seeds to the place you grow. To keep it small start it mid summer, that way it will start flowering sooner.
A five gallon pot full of good potting soil is all you need. there is plenty of good advise on line about how to germinate seeds, look and you will find.
One word of caution, it sounds like a dangerous place to grow, keep to your plan of one small plant at a time.
hope it helps

Hi
A couple suggestions that might help
Soil - To make it easy get a huge bag of Miracle Gro brand indoor potting soil with the TR ferts already mixed in. Get a small bag of seed starting mix (scotts or any brand) and one bag perlite (scotts or any) I suggest these brands because they are widely available anywhere. To start seeds get say 12-16 oz plastic cups, make a small hole in the bottom and and fill 3/4 w/ the MG mix and top 1/4 w/ the seed start mix. Once they pop ground they must have a Flo light right on top of them like 2 centemeters above if starting inside which I recomend. Put them outside about 2-3 hours a day for 2 days before transplanting to outdoor containers. When they are about 6 inches tall transplant into large containers filled w/ a mix of 1 part perlite to 4 parts MG soil (roughly). Find plastic plant containers about 4 gallons as they will be a bit wider and shorter than 5 gal paint buckets because of your height concerns. Put them out on the deck / patio in full sun.
Start late as Nightpharmer said to keep them fairly short. Plant more than 1, at least two - three, because one won't produce much when going in late like this. Also you are new, and if one dies off, which is likely, you will still have one left. Since your restriction is height not width, you can have a couple shorties next to each other. You can also tie them down w/ string if they get over the 4 foot max. Start with good quality FEM seeds from FS. It will make all the effort worth the trouble.

One more thing I forgot that is real important:
When you fill the start-up cups do not use straight MG mix in the bottom. Mix it 2/3 MG with 1/3 perlite, fill the cup up 3/4 with that, and then put the 1/4 seed mix on the top.

i would highly recommend not using merical grow, ive used it on my plants before and they turned out shitty, for one the merical grow is tooo strong on your baby plants, second whe they get bigger it does not have the right nutrients needed to grow weed. i would go up to the forum search and type in merical grow(or im sure shitty soil will work too) and you can read the stories about it

Hey,
I suggested MG cause its always available at any store and I was trying to keep it simple since the poster seemd new. It may not be the absolute ideal for MG growth, but I have had great results with MG and every other indoor plant mix that I have ever tried and I always mix with perlite to lighten it up a bit.
Maybe I do something different, but I don't really get much different results from one indoor mix to another as long as it is light enough to drain.

But Miracle Grow is about the worst soil one can use for cannabis, no matter how convenient it is. And growing in a pot in your hot Florida climate isn't a good idea either unless you're using the huge, 25gal size or bigger. The heat will stunt the roots unless you can figure a way to keep them cool. It'd be best for the plant and a better yield if you just let it grow in the yard.
And NEVER EVER plant just one seed!

Im not really sure why people are all posting that MG soil is not good for plant growth? Let me ask you all something - Have you ever tried it yourself? I did a search as someone said, and I read all the negative stuff about it and here is what I say about that - Its all complete and total B.S. !
It may be true that the included ferts in MG dirt are bad for the environment, but so are all other chemical type ferts. As far as plant growth results go, I have tried this MG soil several times on several different types of plants. Not only did they grow well but they grew faster, bigger, stonger and greener than just about any other mix I have tried. It's a bit high on N right out of the bag and holds a bit too much water. Lighten it up with some perlite like I suggested and it works great. The fact that you can go 4-6 weeks without adding any more ferts makes it fool proof for a beginner. Adding a small amount of epsom does not hurt either.
BTW - I do not just post suggestions here based on what I have heard or what I have read or just recycle what I found when I did a search on it. My suggestions here are based only on my own personal experience. They may not always be 100% correct, but my intentions are always true. I still stand by what I say about the MG soil for beginners, because my personal experiece has been not only good but great. I question the motives of anybody who posts all those pages and pages of negative info about this or any other product too.
Good luck to ALL growers,
bob

Ive used miraclegrow soil before and its not that bad, most plants will grow fine with it had a few that showed some mg defeciency wich is easily taken care of, the ferts in the soil get used up fairly quickly and you may will still have to use a fertilizer.
