How to be more spiritual

I've never been spiritual but I'd like to become spiritual, maybe try some type of meditation or something next time I smoke alone. Any advice for someone who's never tried it before and would like a quality experience?

being spiritual is about knowing in your heart and mind as truth things for which you will gladly sacrifice ...
ideology passed into ones actions...and discipline i believe is important in all faith...whether one is agnostic or nihilistic..articulation about ones beliefs is what makes one spiritual as it applies to your life day to day...

I suggest being open to change...and nature as a whole can pacify the being..depending on where you live try to spend some time outdoors..

if you enjoy it...talking about life and values with close friends can tighten spirituality..

take these with a grain of salt these are things i personally believe..

meditation can be found in many activities as it is introspection/concentration and discipline rolled into one-a peace focus...i find playing lacrosse to be like a form of meditation..

speaking personally, of course, I think I prefer to link spirituality not to faith, or to sacrifice, but rather inability of mankind to perceive the whole of reality.
Spirituality is just an acceptance of the fact that there are sights, sounds and experiences which fail to register in the spectrum of human perceptions. There are parts of reality that we fail to perceive, but they are part of reality regardless and effect the whole, even the parts we live in.

Spirtuality is simply opening towards the unknown that hides just beyond the veil of our senses, rather than hiding from it.

active meditation helps to become more focused on a task, such as movement coordination, or courses of action.
active meditation is to focus your awareness on thoughts of the object you are meditating on. in your case, that would be spirituality.


passive meditation is to clear your mind, a good way to begin active meditation is to start by clearing your mind.

passive meditation is also helpful in stressful times and when you are just highly roused and/or angry.

if you need to chill out, passive meditation is very useful, but by no means an easy thing to just pick up and run with. we are most often used to running thought-to-thought, jumping from one to the next, never giving ourselves a moment to rest our minds; and passive meditation is quite the opposite of that. it will take practice to get fully used to pushing out thoughts and just clearing your mind.

lastly, there is a method of meditation i have picked up on. it is awareness meditation.
rather than trying to clear your mind, or to focus your thoughts, just be aware of everything in and around you. your thoughts, your thinking patterns, everything, just take it all in, and study it without thought of it. observe it for future reference in active meditation.


it is difficult to focus your awareness on all your senses, but there are some immediate benefits of this practice pertaining to the other methods of meditation, as well as generally being an aware and coherent person.

My suggestion is to do a good self evaluation one night. I mean really dig in and be brutaly honest with yourself. Write down what you like on one page and what you dislike on another, then accept these things as simply being part of you. Use your qualities as much as you can in everyday life, then think further about what you value, and incorporate those things into your life as well. Don't worry so much about the nagatives, as when you incorporate what you value into your everyday life the negatives will fade.

Self realization is one of the first steps in becoming what you want to become, but self acceptance and/or evaluation is where you should start, imo. Never beat yourself up over what you consider a shortcoming, accept it and move on.

Realize that none are perfect and that the journey IS the destination. Spirituality is about growth, and freedom, imo. Never stop growing or learning, and never settle for mediocraty.

honestly, if you really wanna jumpstart a spiritual experience, id say take a stong dose of any psychedelic (preferrably shrooms).

I think the first step to becoming a more "spritual" person is a self analysis. Do you treat others the way you would want to be treated? Are you willing to change parts of you that may need to be changed? But even more than that I would pray. Ask God to reveal to you what that means? Ask God to reveal himself or herself to you. (I personally beleive God is neither male or female). I wish you the best....Peace :jointsmile:
