Help with first grow cabinet
I'm no to growing and I've done a ton of research and I'd like to run my idea for a stealth grow by anybody willing to listen (or read, I guess :stoned: ) Anyway, I live in a small one bedroom apartment so stealth is an issue. I plan to grow in a closet that has washer/drier hook ups I'm not using. The closets probably 5'W X 5'L X 8' H.
The seeds I'm using are lowryder. The plant only grow to be about 18 inches tall; perfect for stealth cabinet growing. Since the yield per plant is small (about 28 grams) I plan on growing 8 hydroponically. Any males I'll throw out.
I have a budget of about $300. I was wondering if I could get a good hydroponic system, lighting, and grow cabinet supplies (fans, cabinet) online anywhere? I've looked extensively for premade boxes but they are way out of my budget.
If anybody could direct me to any guides on hydroponic grow cabinet construction for beginners, please let me know. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!
Help with first grow cabinet
I've read almost every thread on cabinet growing, and have yet to find a guide to build a stealth grow box or cabinet. I was wondering if I should consider using cfls instead of the MH and HPS bulbs to cut down on costs and heat. I have read a number of books and I just need some confirmation that I'm heading in the right direction with my project.

Say penny wisdom, your closets 5x5x8. Thats plenty big of a space. Nonetheless what size light you gonna use. Maybe 400 watts is plenty for for the 8 plants especially since they stay small. Since heat is as issue, look into air cooled, I'm running a 400 watter in my closet 5x2x8 and air cooled works great in there. Since your in an apt. smell will be an issue. I exhaust stinky air 24/7 out of the room through a carbon can filter with a 100 cfm cage blower. The exhaust helps boost your ventilation or air exchange and when lights on helps cool. For my air cooled 400 watter I exhaust the hot air out of the room with a 165 cfm cage blower fan. Temps stay in the low to mid 70's lights on. The intake is just a nice gap between door and floor and two holes in the door. My place is shitty and doors are cheap. Nonetheless my light does exhaust stinky air beacause I have yet to cut another hole to pull in fresh air. Like if I do that the lights air never touches the room=no smell=peace of mind. Cutting holes in drywall is a snap and running 4in ducting is easy as shit. Check out my grow, need to get better picks of fans and shit but rest assured it's all there. Hang your exhaust fans on bungees, decreases noise and vibration. Good luck let me know if I can help. Oh yeah, use an HPS. Spend the money now and be happier w results.

Thanks for the awesome advice! However, the air cooled reflector with ballast is way out of my price range. Also, I cannot use my entire closet space because I live in an apartment where maitenance likes to drop in unexpectedly so stealth is an issue. I was thinking of having a cabinet that is about 16 square feet. I figure I could save a lot of money by using cfls b/c I won't need all the cooling devices.
Anyway, anybody have any basic grow cabinet instructions that would be good for a newbie growing a small strain like lowryder? Also, I will have a journal of my grow so you can all witness the miracle of life (and death :rastasmoke: ) with me. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

I do plan on journaling my first grow and posting pictures. I will attempt to write a short manual for building a small grow cabinet for newbs. Hopefully everyone can benefit from my experience so that the sacred herb may spread through closets throughout the globe and shit.

look at homedepot and their plastic cabs they sell for like 50.00 their relativly small and would work out great for a lowryder grow. mh/hps too much look into 43w cfls or if you can afford go with 105w cfl at 1000bulbs.com. i think your best bet would be the plastic cabs at homedepot check them out and if you have trouble finding them let me know and ill try and help you out in locating them. happy growing.
anything i say is purley fictional due to the fact that i have been diagonsed as being completly crazy and out of touch with the real world....
