One way to do it is to have an extra res of the same size with stones and air hoses already ran into it. Mix your new water and nutes into the extra res and just lift the lid w/ the plants and transfer it over.
That is one way, but say... You have more then one, like ten. Is there a way you can do it with out changing the res?
maybe if you had drains on the bottom of the tubs... drain the old mixture out and pour new solution through the top of the lid or through an access hole. Latewood would be the one to listen to on this topic. Maybe he will see this thread.
I was thinking of the making a drain also. I hope latewood does read this, he's helped me out a bunch so far. I trust his judgement also. I'm going to buy an extra res for now.
I'm only growing in soil right now but would like to switch to DWC once I get a good hold on soil growing. I had though of using a cooler for my res. Pretty much all of them have a drain hole in the bottom and you can get them with access doors in the lid. Are there any problems with doing this?

make sure the cooler wont leak.
For somthing the size of a cooler, Would you need more then one airstone? How much volume of water do you need to start using more then one airstone?
wait u want to use a cooler for a dwc...? uhhhh... have fun cutting that bitch up. I misunderstood a cooler would be great for a seperate res. but as a main root chamber u need to figure out how ur gonna fit/cut it for net pots and other stuff. Rubbermaids and buckets, a cooler isnt going to keep u that much colder with an airpump and root system.
Thats what I was worried about. I have no idea what they use to insulate the inside of a cooler lid. The reason I thought of using a cooler vs. rubbermaid was to cut down on noise from the bubblers. I don't know if it would be worth it...I've also never seen a DWC system outside the hydro shop and its always pretty loud in there but from what I understand the bubblers can make a fair amount of noise. I need it to be virtually silent during the dark cycle when the fan is off.

*edit* I'm sure I could make the appropriate holes with a dremel tool...I'm just worried about having to seal in some kind of foam insulation or something.
