Coming out to Dad

There come's a time in a man's (or young boy's) life that he has to be completely honest to the world about the way he lives.....

That time is not now for me....sorry to bum you out..

But it is perhaps time for me to come out about my love of the herb to my dad. Here's the reason why I want to come out to HIM and only HIM (No one else...NO ONE else in my family). He was the only one that was a BIG stoner (although my mom smoked growing up). He did not smoke growing up (like if he was some kind of REBEL HIGH SCHOOL KID). He smoked a lot when he was on his own in Chicago in the late 60s (yes he was near the riots in 1968 Chicago....it happened right in his neighborhood. But he did not take part because he is a decent human being, although against the war). He will tell me this very openly and proudly.

Before I really smoked pot a lot (and I knew about his history) I said something about someone being dumb because he smoked a lot of pot. He scolded me saying that "In no way marijuana makes you dumb or stupid."

I'll have to say....and that moment...I began to be very involved with the herb....Because I knew anything my dad didn't have regrets about is reasonable enough for me.

Now he doesn't know ANYTHING about my pot smoking...
but I leave my Native American Peace Pipe that reeks of weed out in the open in my room (I figure he thinks it's decoration ... and it is)
and occasionally we'll have big discussion about why marijuana use should be legal or atleast marijuana should be rescheduled.

So maybe he suspects that I use. But I see no signs of him knowing.

But considering his history with the plant, I do have a strong desire for him to know. In hopes maybe that I will be able to stop hiding it like a closet crack head. Maybe he'll even buy me bongs and pipes for christmas....or not. But still....

So what do ya'll think...I'm 16 now....
Do you have any tips for me about being more open about it with him

Or do you suggest I wait till I'm older...and perhaps...on my own? (This sounds easier and more reasonable)

go for it, dude... if my dad was like yours i'd do it right away

just ask him what he'd think if you smoked, and then take it from there

dude, this is exactly the same for me. my dad went to boarding school, and he told me all about his days. hes 55 now, and i turn 16 in a month. he knows that i want to smoke it, and i really just want to tell him taht i smoke and i use it in moderation. but he told me about the mental addiction taht mostly everyone gets, the same thing with chocolate or comp games or anything like that. he thinks ill just start smoking more and more, like before class, after class, a wake and bake. but hes read all the articles about how the government has overexxagerated the health problems, how pot isnt more potent nowadays, only the more potent strains are more easily accesible. he probably knows more about it than i do. but i just want him to trust me with it, because i know i can continue to use it in moderation, like once a week, or less.

lol if you leave your pipe in the room, are you sure he doesn't already know and is just waiting for you to tell him??

i came out to my stoner dad recently and it's been great. he now hooks me up with green and it's better than all the dope boys in town:D

Tell him, he still recognizes the ganja for it's goodness. One thing I learned is that any one who smoked weed in the past and still understand how it is a good thing will respect the fact you smoke as long as it's the only drug you do, I told all my aunts and uncles on my moms side of the family and they don't care, they use to blaze together. Hell, one of my aunts said I could crash at her place if I was too drunk or blazed to be at my house.

I don't think he will be that furius if he said things like that...I think there hints.

he shouldnt be that mad i might tell my dad after i get a job he used to smoke weed all the time he even used to grow it but he had to stop cuz he became a firefighter and he would lose everything if he fails theyre random drug tests

Damn dude, just tell him. My dad had negative experiences with weed and even he is pretty cool with me smoking.
