Wierd Question: How to minimize yield?
This is going to be a strange question... because I don't smoke a ton of the stuff. I use it now and again to relax a little and enjoy the taste, or sometimes as a sleep aid. I might smoke a 10 grams a year... might! I can't find any good strains in my area because I don't really know a lot of people around here that smoke. So I'm looking to try growing my own. I just purchased some seeds of some really nice strains. But I'm sort of stressed about the legal consequences of possessing ounces of the stuff. I just want a little personal stash.
If I grew a cannabis plant in a relatively small pot (maybe a half a 2-liter pepsi bottle) without transplanting *BUT* I kept up with the watering, light, and fertilizer properly... would it still flower and make high quality buds, but just in a smaller amount? Or if I'm growing indoors, what is the earliest I can put it on 12/12 to make it flower and still get at least a few buds off it? Basically, does a plant have to be of a certain minimum size in order to flower?
The smallest I've heard of people starting flowering is like 1 foot tall, and they say then it is like 2-3 feet by the harvest. Maybe this is just something I need to experiment with... but I figured I'd ask.

you can go to a 12/12 light cycle from seed... the plant will flower when it wants to regardless... as far as keeping the plant root bound, that should work, but a better idea is to bonsai it... keep it in a hydroponic system, and crop the roots every so often... you might want to consider something like lowrider, as it is auto-flowering. keep in mind that the penalties for growing are always worse than simple possesion.

As a general rule of thumb, you want to see 4 nodes before you flower but when people say that it's to induce a larger yield. Quite honestly, if you smoke that little, you might have an easier time just finding someone who can get high quality cannabis and let them do the work for you. I don't see a point in growing if you only use it a small small amount... just my .02 though

I agree with not seeing the point, except that the only connection I've found in this area only gets dried out ditch weed (or what I would call ditch weed compared to what I smoked growing up in S. Florida). I have no doubt good shit is around here (durham, nc.... three large universities within 20-30 minutes from me). I just would have no idea where to find it.
I've always wanted to try growing it too. So I guess if I want to experience growing my own, I'd better just be prepared for a little more yield then I actually want. (Is that really so bad :jointsmile: )

To be honest, unless you invest time, space and money to the growing of your plant you probably won't end up with anything better than the shwag that is already available to you. I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find someone who can get you your bud and make you smile after you take a look at it.

Just Buy some lowrider seeds. auto flowering, small plant, small yield. :)

Not all strains will grow to finish if you start them out 12/12 as seedlings. There are axions that must be produce before most of the strains can be switched to flower cycle. Or else you risk hermies or worse like a mixed cycle grow and end up with just about nothing in the end.
Hagbard and others suggestion of lowrider being an auto flower strain is a good idea for you. Not the best quality smoke imo but it stays small and flowers early for the most part. Small yielder too compaired to other strains.
You can spend money on comerical products that will keep the plant small and compact so you can grow any strain. Bush master makse one as well as Dutch master.
I just wanted to set the record straight and not give you the impression you can start any seed on 12/12 and grow it to term....you can't or should not.

Lowryder 2 get like 40-60 watts of fluorescent light(Compact fluorescents an actaull wattage not indascent wattage) in a 1x1x2 high cabinet lined with some mylar an ur good to go skippy.. grow like 3 seeds an hopefully u get a female to show within 20 days..

LST and about 15days veg produce nice compact plants, my 1st grow i veged about 20 days and LST and got almost a ounce of herb from her, stuff was very nice and lasted me a month but that was using HPS.

Sweet. That's good to hear. What were they, like 2 feet tall or so at harvest?
