Thinking of growing in a personal storage area...

... rented at a local Uhaul place. What do you think? I only want to grow one or two plants. Would it be possible to build a grow box where I could use a fan to blow all the air through some duct work into a carbon filter or something? Would that get rid of the smell? I'm a total novice, so if you have any links or suggestions as to what materials to buy I'd appreciate it. Also, drying and curing without smell are going to be an issue too.

Also, are the police known to run drug dogs around those places? If I were a cop I'd probably run threw places like that now and again. I don't think they would need a warrant to just walk around outside the storage areas.

I would use my condo, but if I get busted I don't want my property confiscated. Maybe guerrilla grow outside is the way to go. Even then though, I would need a place to dry and cure and I would think that is the smelliest part of the whole process.

Lot's of questions, as you can see. Thanks for any advice you have.

Usually they have lights in there... I was thinking I would wire it to my own fixture. Anyway, I appreciate your advice. I found a nice place for a guerrilla grow today so I'm probably gonna give that a try instead.

Think I would be better off growing indoors in an apartment building? Or is outdoors my only real option?

What are your concerns about growing in your place? IMO if you are going all out with the carbon filter and such you should be fine growing in your apt. For disposing of trash it's quite handy as well (obviously you have to be careful about what's in the same bag). :jointsmile:

edit: what size crop are you thinking of growing? that too could be a big factor in choosing indoors / outdoors.

My only concern about my place is smell. I've heard a general rule that you should never grow in an apartment complex since everyone is so close and the smell will give you away.

I would like just one or two plants though. I've never grown any, so I'm not sure if the smell from just one or two is going to be a problem or not. I don't even know how a carbon filter would work or how to use one, but I've heard it can eliminate odor pretty well.

well do a search on carbon filters, and then look for a low odor strain, NL, apt is way safer then a storage untit, your would have to go every other day to check on them, and tampering with some ones electricity is a felony. So yeah an apt woud be easy and a small grow cab for 2 plants is pretty easy to maintain and be stealthy.

Hate to tell you but a lot of people deal drugs in storage parking lots...IMHO, this is NOT a good place.....you can't control anything about it, and they can open it for any cause....look at your contract! I have an 1100 sq ft house and am just using a bought ionizer from Hunter and it works find for two plants. This is plug and play, and slightly more expensive than the DIY scrubber. The room is along the main hallway that everyone passes through, and no one suspects a thing...if they opened the door it would be another story. However, you may want to look into a stealth cabinet since you can't go drilling holes in the walls/ceiling/floor when you'd like. Plus you have to think about service personel that may have to come in to do thier maintenence. :jointsmile:Bree

I swear by ozone generators. I'm in an appartment. Just dont be cheap in your selection, you really do get what you pay for. Keep the grow and the ozone in a seperate room if possible, and you can crank the mgph past reccomended threashold for ppm safe for humans.

At aprox 60-70 mgph in my den with the door closed, you walk through the front door and cannot even tell i smoke cigs in here let alone grow. The higher levels of o3 in the den kills the growing pot odor, and residual o3 is circulated periodically whenever the fan kicks on and air is circulated throughout the rest of the appartment.

Just be careful cuz if your unit is a big bad boy, o3 can be toxic even to the plant. For a small number of plants, I love ozone. Its easy too, plug it in turn it on and your done. Fits all setups ;) No pipes no tape no carbon rocks all over.

Incense and the occasional spritz of whatever air freshner never hurt either. I also swear by ozium :P
