hydro vs soil

For years i believed that organics (growing in soil) was the only way to go.I recently allowed a buddy of mine to talk me into setting up my "pro hydro"
room,and i must say that i have seen no major growth speed or quality enhancments,which leads me to ask...what is the fascination w/hydro?
i would therefor like to have a debate. hydro and organic growers alike should list the pro' and con's of there prefered method.As a way to enlighten us all and perhaps finally settle the age old argument.

For me, Hydro is a lot easier.

I tried several times in soil and my plants kept dying. Overwater, underwater, bad soil, blah blah blah.

In hydro there isn't really any guesswork. First time grow went perfect. it might be a little more "work" measuring ph and occasionally changing the water, but you know you soil guys waste plenty of time looking at your plants for no reason ;-)

I can't attest to yield or speed differences, since i've never finished a soil grow. I would imagine if you kept the conditions perfect in soil it would be pretty similar. I just think it's a lot easier to provide "perfect" grow conditions in hydro.

I was told that hydo dries better. I stick with soil, Hydro is to serious for what I am trying to do.

ive grown in hydro for years(n.f.t.)and also in soilmix ive found it grows faster in hydro and you get much more yeild,with soil i found the bud taste sweeter and fuller bodied and the buz last a lot longer in hydro,but thats just me:S5: :S5: :S5:

hydro is faster if it is done right. it is also a ton of fun. My first grow was soil, but now i'm moving on to hydro, which i have just started.

BOTH styles are great...

for people that really GET off on growing and gardening... hydro is fantastic.. it lets ONE play with the plants and manipulate the plants and a WHOLE NEW LEVEL...

mastering hydro can also bring more $$$$.. much more

this argument will never end. been going on as long as i can remember( im 40) and will go on long after i am feeding them worms :S5: i personal believe that it is up to what ever the hobiest wants to do is the best way for them. i am going to grow dirt and i will try a hydro, an areo, and a buble ponic i am going to try them all and the one that is the most enjoyment.(both the grow and the harvest) and thje stick with that till it is boring then i will try another.:S5:

Iâ??m sorry dude but you are not bringing anything new to the discussion. We have had this discussion with hundred probably even thousands of people and every time itâ??s the same story. If you know what you are doing then you can and will grow larger, bigger and more vigorous plants in hydroponics then organics. You yields canâ??t compare and the taste issue is just that a personal preference. You MUST flush your plants organic or Hydroponics you must FLUSH your plant. That and a properly dried and cured plant you will not know the difference except for the major increase in the yield.

Did you ever get yields like this from Organics�����NO you did not.

Organics just canâ??t push and follow the cycle of life for this great plant. You can only feed on the average and in hydroponics we can push the limits.

These plants yield 3 to 3.5 pounds dry every time; you canâ??t get that from Organics.

Itâ??s just personal preference in growing style and money. People who love organic will always have lower yields but they donâ??t care they still prefer the easy, simple, hands off growing of organics. It works for them and I even feel they think its healthier then man made nutrients. I would question things like salmonella and many other bacteria found in organic compost that is not matured properly can kill you. Or at least make you sick that has always worried me about organics. To many people only think they know how to make good healthy compost but if you make one mistake you can get sick and not just harm your plants.

I think that using the term 'organics' to describe soil grows is misleading... like comparing socialism and democracy, lol... you can use chemical ferts in dirt or hydro, and the same with organic ferts...

You can perfectly well go organic in hydro or soilless media.

The comparison should be strictly between 'hydro' and 'soil'.

Each has its advantages.

Choose your medium to suit your situation.
