I have 3 seedlings that I just transplanted into 2L coke bottles (week old from sprout). They're under two compact-fluros and a 40W shop fluro. How much longer should I wait before I dig out the big muscle (400W HPS) and blast'em with that?

Depending on how big you want them to get. Usually, note that, USUALLY, the plant will double in size by the time its harvested. Allowing longer vegging periods increases yeild, but also overall size.
Normally the average indoor vegitation period is anywhere from 4-8weeks.
What type of compact do you have? watts? lumens?
hope this helped
upon a second reading, my post doesn't read as straightforward as I had hoped. :P
Basically what I'm trying to ask is "if I put my one-week old seedlings, which have only been exposed to flurorescent lighting thus far, under a 400 watt HPS, will they be able to handle it or should I wait?". Maybe they're too young and won't be able to survive under the intense light--that's my concern.:D

just keep the light farther away for a few days. slowly lower it until it's at the correct distance from the tops. this will make shure the seedlings don't get stressed out.
thanks dude :)

I start my plants under 400 watt hps, but it is farther away than usual. like 2 feet.
