If I remeber my grade 12 physics right yes it is true. Light is made up off all the colors just in different proportions. What happens whewn we see the color of an object all the other colors are absorbed by the surfaceof the object and the color we se is the color that is reflected back. So because plants are green the reflect almost all green light back at us with out absorbing it. That is why it is possible to work in a dark cycle with green lights with out having any effect on your plants. The only question is how do you get into your grow room without leaking other light in, unless you have a double door system like in photography dark rooms.
i heard the same thing about mj plants not absorbing green light...i think it was in jorge cervantes bible. good point there chrissy, about how can you avoid light leaks when you enter the room.

well it mostly does, it's still a risk in my opinion. I know the science behind it, but i wouldn't do it
The green light thing is good for large professional grows, where it'd be easy to simply turn on the green lights when the HIDs go off. There are bulbs designed specifically for that purpose. Maintenance can go on 24 hours. It is a valid technique, but of limited use to "hobby" growers.
Yeah, I knew the science behind it as well but I just am a little weary of taking the risk to be honest. I had a tiny light leak in my room for a few weeks, took care of it, but nervous as fuck it will give me seeds/hermies. I probably won't use the green light technique outta sheer fear lol

I remember hearing about this, which probably means I heard it on Zandor's Grow Report podcast. IIRC it was the report where he spoke about KBS (growing tree-like cannabis plants), #13 or 14 maybe. Given that I'd say it's likely a safe practice.
It was show #12 if anyone's looking for it. You can't go in the room because the CO2 will give you a headache so you go in at night when the CO2 is off. "6x 25W pure green bulbs"
I use a green party bulb in my flower room when I need to get in there and do any emergency maintenance, like checking the ac unit etc. or repairing plastic 'walls' that are tearing down and letting light leaks in.
It DOES emit other colors though, so I limit the time it is turned on to only about 15 mins or so.
