a little problem mabe..

hello all.. this past week my humidity been about 28% the temps been around 76 to 80.. is that low humidity going to hurt anything? i'm in the 5th week of flowering... thank:stoned:

It wont hurt, but it may cut down on the res production a bit, but right now in Alaska the RH is as low if not lower and my girls are still doing OK.

"res production" is resin? Trichomes? I thought a lower RH would make more because it triggers the plant somehow to pump it out to protect it's moisture?

Optimal resin production is around 40% at the end of flower as most grow books point out. When your humidity drops down too much lower you may become counter productive. Resin is a self defense mechanism that the plant uses to protect its flowers when a stressful situation arises because the resin helps to secure the seeds the the buds would normally be producing in nature, and helps to attract the pollen and secure it when dropped by the mails or carried by the wind, but when the plant is stressed too much or when humidity is too low it isn't able to draw moisture threw the roots quick enough to compensate for the dry environment and take care of all of the other production needs at once and the plant is going to lag in being able to produce optimally.

Trichromes are full of cannabinoids and these Trichromes are found to be more abundant in plants grown in higher elevation with lower RH, but the resin/Trichromes/cannabinoids are conjugated double bonds with the ability to absorb Ionizing UV radiation and increase when UV rays are increased to the point that the plant feels threatened, needing to shield its self and be able to absorb the larger amounts of light. Also, resin is like a sap that helps to move/transfer a host of things as well as protect the flowers/seeds. So there is more to resin/THC production then just protecting the plant from becoming dry,LOL.

Ok good stuff. I'll definitely need my humidifier right in my growroom then I guess. I checked one morning at lights-on time and noticed my RH was 18%.

my plants are 4 weeks old and seem to be doing very well with humidity in the 20-30% range, I have put a humidifier in the room a couple times and they get really droopy so I stopped.

Your plants will adapt to the growing environment by making larger type leaves to deal with larger amounts of humidity/heat and produce thinner leaves for lower humidity so if your plants have been brought up in one type of humidity then a change will have those kind of affects with the exception of switching over from veg to flower where the plant kicks into a different part of the growth cycle and then can adapt to a different humidity in a favorable manor because you are helping the plant to take a step in a direction that is already heading, IE lowering humidity to assist with the natural process of starting to create THC/resin for breeding/survival/photosynthesis.
