Anyone Else Like Me?!? Explanation/Opinion? [Nicotine Addiction]

OK...I wanted to refrain from explaining my experience with cigarettes for the sake of not starting another arguement...so I'm gonna try to phrase it as more of a 'what do you guys think'....instead of a 'I am immune to nicotine addiction' kinda thing.

I know it's the most addictive thing in the world...I know, I know, my mother and aunt have been smoking for like 25 years and have tried many methods of quitting and just haven't succeeded..yet.

Anyway...long story short I always hated butts...then one time when I was drunk, I had a few. This was about 6 years ago. Since then..about 75% of the time I drink, I usually have a few cigarettes. Some weekends I'll buy a pack for the night (I hate Marbs, I prefer Newports for some reason..they are smooth to me and don't leave such a nasty taste).

Funny thing is...I've never fiended for or ever wanted a cigarette when sober (I will smoke a butt if I'm bored and a friend is smoking, but I'll never go buy a pack unless drinking or doing specific 'upper type' substances [rare nowadays]....)

It's weird too, cuz a lot of my friends are this way too (of course some of my friends are everyday smokers too)....just smoke on the weekends...BUT...some of my friends turned into everyday smokers doing this. Not me though. I know it's hard for people not to say 'Just wait..you'll see"...Well, I've been waiting for years, it's just not going to happen. I am at the point where I can honestly make the claim I will never be an everyday smoker. Maybe it's because I've seen family struggle with the addiction? Maybe I'm addicted...but only when alcohol is present? Anyone else experience this time of 'recreational' use of cigarettes? What do you guys think....I know it's weird...but it's true, you just have to take my word.

I know I'm gonna get some shit for this...but there's really nothing else to say...that's the jist of it. "You'll see Mac, you'll see...just watch you fuckin idiot...you'll be smoking a pack a day before you know it." LOL..just so you guys don't gotta say it.

All joking aside...I know it's more addictive than herion to most people. Actually I'm pretty weird with substances...marijuana has always been kind of 'habitual' to me..but I haven't smoked in like a month..but when I do again, I'll probably go on a month binge everyday (then a few weeks off and repeat..I'm weird like that). White stuff doesn't really phase me...only on the weekends a few times a year...caffiene don't do shit for me...I drink like a cup of coffee maybe twice a week in the morning. Alcohol is only used in party situations. So what the fuck is wrong with me? I think because I've already gone through being 'addicted' to weed when I was younger that I have trained myself to handle things rather well.

I don't know really. Try not smoking ciggs. at all for a month. I bet you cave. :D

What he said, try and go a month without smoking. If you can do it, then you're not hooked.

actually ive been in a ver similar situation... i smoked only on like weekends and mite have smoked a few cigs in a night, but nvr wanted any after that... just liked the feeling

I didn't smoke any since like the summer before last month when my friend came home from the Navy. But since he's been here, and he smokes the Newie P's...I have had a few here and there..we usually been splitting a pack on some nights.

I guess it should be noted that I absolutely HATE the taste and smell if I'm sober (if I've been drinking, I don't notice really). I actually have to wash my hands after one and possibly swish a little mouthwash if it's available LOL. Ugghh...it's gross.

I believe you,,,as I said before,,,I was married to someone with the same ways... Why do you smoke at all is the serious question,,,seem like social preasure,wanting to fit in???

LOL...no I'm not like that with anything. Any decision I make is because I want to do it...I could give a fuck less about anyone else [I've always been like this..I was one of the first to smoke weed in HS and everyone followed me].

Some of my friends that don't ever smoke bitch at me when I do..so it's actually a pressure to not, but I don't really care what they say/think at the time.

I HATE them when I'm sober and I LOVE them when I'm drunk, I don't know why..the light-headedness I guess (I also think it's pointless to smoke when sober because it 'doesn't do anything', but there is definitely a slight feeling when you've got a few in ya)...

Anyway...I was hoping someone would have an opinion as to WHY this is...not if you believe it (could care less). Lippa said in the other thread that it's maybe a sub-conscious link that I have between alcohol and butts...which seemed like a good point. Anyone agree/disagree?

I quit one time for a year and 7 months,,,I quit drinking for a year at that time too... one night I went to a bar had a beer and bought a pack of Winstons,it started another 14 years of 4½ pack addiction that ended with a pipe in my heart... I was doing great till I popped open a beer,,,can't explain why...

Yeah, I think most people have this thing with alcohol and nicotine. It's just a link that we make..1+1. Like I said, a lot of my friends are the same way as me. One of my friends actually only smokes when he's high (ewww..I use to as well, but now that's just disgusting to me).

One of the reasons people I know can't quit is because they drink too. Also caffiene is another thing some people associate with smoking. So for my mom to quit smoking, she would need to quit drinking beer and coffee too, which would be hard because she drinks a few days a week, smokes about 2 packs a day, and drinks 4-5 cups of coffee.

I can see why cigarettes can be linked to caffiene and other stimulants...but alcohol is a depressant...total opposite.

idk about you but you seem kinda similar to how me and some of the local boys are/were. me i have a large amount of stress in my life (the GF has a lot to do with most of it) and i have found that butts are an easy cheap way of getting the anger and annoyance out of the way. i think that i started smoking for the opposite reason that stink put up, i wanted to rebel from the norm. our town has the lowest rate of (underage) smokers in the state. and i think that maine ha the lowest statistic on underage smoking. so it was kinda unusual to be smoking at age 11 here and that completely broke the norm. then everyone hit the teenage years and they started emulating me and the crew that i hang with. so i kinda think that i started to buck the system and it then turned and bit me in the ass. after i hit high school i buried the fact that i smoked from most of my classmates, i think that i did that for the same reason that i started but at than point i had developed a taste for them ciggs. now i do believe that i am addicted to them but it almost might be the control that the nicotine gives me over my emotions. another thing about your lack of addiction is that many people with add have a different response to drugs then a very similar person with the same drug. look at adderoll, for most people an upper, for a kid with add its a downer. i cant remember where i got that info from but i think that it was in some journal about Attention Deficit Disorder. not saying that you have add but it might be something to look into. even if just for the sake of gathering more info.
