you probably do not need to do anything as they are not likely to harm your plants to begin with.
generally animal problems come in 2 ways either the plant gets eaten or the plant gets dug up you can prevent them from being dug up by making sure your soil doesnt have anything that attracts animals such as bone or blood meal.
put up a chicken wire fence ,with a net over the top
