I have a grow cabinet and I just got a 1000w HPS for it. I know that a 1000w is enough to cover an 8' x 8' space and I cut that down to a 4 1/2' cabinet. Does anyone think that this is too much light for this space?

The intensity of the light is never a problem (I don't think), I think it's just the heat and temperature that might be a problem. If you can control that then it should all be fine :).
Sounds good. I have an in-line duct fan hooked up to it to keep the temp down. The cabinet temp is at 79.2 degrees with the fan on at about 1/3 power. I can turn up the speed of the fan and adjust the temp but the noise of the fan is the issue for me right now. Thanks for the reply orangeman.
HAPPY GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
suposedly after 50 w. per sq. ft. a plant can't utilize much more .
if it's too much you'll be the first to know via. light stress . cab. temps are fine so far at 79deg.

More light = More bud. Plain and simple. Just KEEP those temps Down. It stresses the hell out of plants when its always 70 degrees then all the sudden 100 degrees.
Usually. 99.9% of the time, this is the case.Quote:

There may have been other factors involved, but when I saw it, temp & humidity were OK, and everything else looked OK.
So yes, I believe it's possible to have too much light.
u wanna see what 1200 watt of hps can produce in a 4x4 room . look at the pic, the averages out at 75 watts per square foot. also i have my room mylared. as far as having too much light , well there aren't much brighter light sources than the sun and guess what weed nomally grows under it , so ur theory about too much light is kinda silly if u think about it , it sounds more like heat stress and bad ventilation that killed ur friends plant.
Dunno. Like I said, could have been other factors, and prolly were. And plant didn't die, it lived & produced, was just very pale & weak. And I know it sounds weird. In just about every situation I've seen, you'd get super-wazoo results like you did, and that's to be expected.Quote:

if your light falls on your plant and crushes it.....you have too much light....Hal..NICE bud btw.
Of course if you have soo much light in such a little room it may cause problems but think about it. The sun is way more intense than a 1000w light bulb but the plants are out in the open and that allows that plant to receive as much light as needed. If your conditions are right there can never be a such thing as too much light.Quote:
