Second grow attempt need advice

Hey guys
THis is my second grow attempt as my first one lasted 1 month, well i got 6 vvery nice bagseeds good sativa high and i just went out to buy some supplies i got just a nice bag of regular compost and "perlite" I was wondering how do i use perlite, i have heard of it being used but can anyone give me a recipe to add it to my soil to get a nice foundation for growing, also it is winter here so i know a bad time for growing but this is just something to pass the time like semi-serious grow. I am growing just indoors in a greenhouse.

well.. add as much as you want, some people use 50/50 perlite and compost, some only use a little perlite... it varies.. my advice would be to measure out 3 different ratios of compost and perlite, record which one does best for that strain, and use the mixture you most like for your 'serious grow' when summer comes around then you can grow the other 3 much better, and it will keep you interested... good luck..

p.s. watch the temps at night if your growing in a greenhouse...;)

safe man i ended up using 50% organic compost, then 25% peat and then 25% perlite, the seeds just germinated yesterday, so im thinking of growing them in my room for a couple of weeks as this is just an experiment not a serious thing.

hey, that sounds like a pretty good mix, but keep an eye out for nute burn on ur babies cause there is a chance that the compost is too hot for them.

perlite is a great thing to add to mix, as it adds a lot of air to the soil. i put about a third perlite in my mixes. i have also finetuned my mixes to be the proper pH, and these are the contents: top soil (very basic- like high pH), perlite, worm castings, regular potting soil (has peat moss, sand and perlite), and peat moss (very acidic). The largest part of my soil is the potting soil stuff, then comes the top soil and perlite, then the peat moss, then worm castings. i add the peat moss in varying amounts, depending on how basic or acidic my soil is. i also use blood and bone meal, the amounts depend on what stage my plants are going into when i transplant them.

i know that's all a kinda complicated, but those are all good ingredients so just use them how u wish. i don't think many people actually "pH" their soil, but we had so many pH issues with our first soil mix (cause we used chicken manure), that we decided to really put a lot of effort into our future mixes. (i say we cause im growing with Harris7, i don't have multiple personas. lol)

oh yeh, if you wanna ph ur soil, just measure the ph of your water, and then ph the run-off too, it should give you a good idea of the soil ph, like, whether to make your water more acidic or more alkaline... good luck..:)
