Yeah, like Zandor says... go to wal-mart and find an item called a "sweater bag". Put the rocks in there and put them in the dishwasher!
I boiled and rinsed them.
Only 4 days? Looks like a lot of flowers for 4 days.
too big a pita for me to bother w/ washing em .
they're cheap . i've hard of ppl. using laundry bags w/ all the lil holes in em and putting em in a dishwasher before . it's just not worth the risk to me , it'll just take a lil bit of old root matter left behind to cause root root n fuk up the next grow . you lose time , electricty , money , genetics etc...

Or you could use like Cannazyme or Hygrozyme to get rid of root material.
Haven't tried it myself though.
I've heard of hydrogen peroxide being used more commonly.
O-zone em...

JOURNAL method:
Remove old root system manually, removing as many small roots as possible.
Then rinse with very diluted bleach solution plus lots & lots of H2O. Will let you know if there are any adverse reactions to the bleach.
Theory is that the bleach kills the bacteria, roots, etc.
If you boil it, here is one thing to keep in mind. Try not to put your roots into the hydroton while it is 'hot.' The clay keeps the heat/cold for longer than usual, so beware of the temperature of the clay balls when you dip your roots in 'em.

I like the sweater bag idea. My grocery store even carries them in various sizes. A dishwasher uses VERY hot water, and if you arranged them well in the bag and then in the top rack of the DW, it should do a really nice job. You could even pour a bit of H2O2 into the detergent dispenser with no problems IMHO.
True. Bag sounds good...but... Careful to clean out your drains afterwards, though, if that root matter can come out of the bag? IF not, it will still be mixed in with your rocks, right?

Well yeah I'd hand clean as well as possible first and such. You'd still want to pick through the rocks a handful at a time once done. And yeah, as normal in the dishwasher you'd want to check the drain for anything larger than can fit through the drain screen :) Still sounds like a nice lazymans way to go! hehe, I'm all about that.
