Ghetto salvage Squirrel Cage Fan for closet/cab grows
I've been looking, and finally found one. Someone was throwing out a microwave oven. So I snagged it and started dissecting, cuz doesn't every microwave have a fan? And lo & behold: a small hi-cap squirrel cage fan! Rated 115VAC 4A. I couln't find any more info on it, but I've cleaned & tested it, and am going to mount later today.

I cut the appropriate holes, mounted the appropriate pipes, and woof! I have venting!
Fan off. Fan on. The kitchen vent to the left there is where I'm routing it to when I find another elbow.

Before & After
I moved the Tubgirls down one shelf, and the Wheelchair Project up one. This gives the tub more room to bud. It was pressing close against the fixtures, now has several inches to bloom. The fan is keeping it about 75°f with door closed. (so far) Was running about 88°f

Props man, thats sweet. I love salvaging stuff, never thought about checking a microwave.

Amps x volts = 460 watts...lotta juice to run a fan.

LOL! Yer right. I prolly misread sommit. No way that thing is drawing 460W, the breaker would trip. Mebbe I dropped a decimal and its drawing 46? Sounds better. Cuz in a microwave, isn't the vast majority of the energy going to the magnetron? I cant see a 600W microwave using 460W for a fan. Dunno. It works.

Ya, probably .4A...that would make more sense. Nice salvage score and nice scrog too!

hehehe... Right you are, princess! The first microwave ovens were called "radar ranges". Amana even had than as a trade name: Radarange.
There were also experiments in the late 40's - early 60's using coherent microwaves (maser, father of the laser) as a "death beam". I.e., flash cooking the enemy.
The output of a microwave oven magnetron is also deadly to police radar guns. And most other precision electronic equipment. If applied properly.
