hydro project container size question
Before I start construction on my new growing machine I need a few opinions from the experts. So here I go. The system is a variation of the vertical growing unit called the Coliseum. There will be 30 pvc posts that are 4? in diameter and 6??6? tall. Each containing 10 sites, about 8? between sites center to center. Each site will be a 2? net pot filled with rock wool, the net pot fits directly into the vertical pvc post and is held in with cable ties. Inside the posts will be expanded clay pellets, 4 2gph drippers mounted at the top of the post will feed 15min every 1hr in a re-circulating system. Plants should not have to veg. any more than one week. My biggest concern is the amount of room for the roots being too small. Have used the GH buckets before and had huge plants in the little 2gal pot so I am thinking that there should be enough room to grow a small single cola plant. Also, the posts that I have are black on the inside and white on the outside, no light can get inside.
3.14 x 4 = 12.56 x 78 = 979.68 cu in per post = 97.96 cu in per plant
1 US gallon = 231 cu in
4x4 rock wool cube is 64 cu in
so, do you all think that there is enough root area to grow high yielding plants?
