stupid laws/court rullings

okay everyones heard of some whacky stories just wanted to bring em all in one thread, please guys no urban legends or "this is true, it happened to my friends sisters brothers cousins boyfriends uncles wifes sister inlaws grandsons friends uncles cousins girlfriends online pen pals imaginary friends brothers uncles sisters cousins boyfriends uncles wifes sister inlaws grandsons friends uncles cousins girlfriends online pen pals imaginary friends brothers uncles sister (sorry, took a while......)"

i studied 2 cases when i was doing legal studies in highschool, it was ages ago but ill try to find links to the original articles

the first story is about a guy who went out of his house on a holliday somewhere, when he was gone some asshole broke into his house, he was robbing the place, while hes casing the guys place, seeing whats worth taking, he trips on a footstool and breaks his leg, when the guy comes back home from his trip, he finds he is being sued by the thief......... THE THEIF ACTUALLY WON!!!!!!!!!

another famous case here in austrlia, this man named Hawkeye Newton (i think that was the name, ill have to double check.....) Hawkeye was a pub owner, his pub had 2 floors, the first one was the bar area for his business, the second floor was where he and his family actually lived, he had a wife and some kids, one night this drunk 16 yr old tries getting into the pub, Hawkeye kicks him out coz the kid is way too drunk and he is underage, any barman wouldve done the same thing,

later that night, after hawkeye closes the bar and lets everyone out, hes in bed with his wife, he hears a noise in his laundry room, he runs in with a baseball bat too see that someone has broken in, its too dark for him to see, the intruder clearly, he doesnt know it was the kid, for all he knew it couldve been an armed man, come to rob him, rape his wife and children, then kill them, so hawkeye did what any man with a baseball bat would do when his family is in danger, he started hitting till the kid was unconscious, he turns on the light, calls the cops and an ambulance, kid goes to hospital

the kid ends up suing hawkeye for hundreds of thousands of dollars, not only does the kid win in court, which is a shocker coz all hawkeye was guilty of was protecting his family, but the kids mother also sued him for the "emotional trauma she went through seeing her son beaten" poor hawkeye lost his business, his home all coz of some shit dickhead of a kid
