scrog method quick question
i was reading up on the scrog method basically know what it is but i got 2 questions.
1. does it matter how big you wanna grow the plant in order to use this method.
2. if not when should this procedure be enforced... at a certain hieght or right before flowering or what? or can you do it basically when evr you want?

not sure what you are asking but see if this will answer your question scrog is usually done with female clones as the sex is predetermined so there is no waste of time training male plants, a screen is placed over the plant most commonly 8-12 inches above the pots or hydro system or soil bed whichever you are using, this height gives you adequete space to be able to reach under the screen for training or trimming any excess growth once the plant just penetrates the screen training begins while screen height can be set wherever you wish, increasing it above 12 inches will increase veg time but might actually be of benefit if attempting to scrog from seed as you should be able to sex the plant before training if a higher screen height is used.
and for the second part of your question it is usually done in both veg and flower the goal is to have a full screen by the time the plants quite growing after a few weeks into flowering. if you wait to late to switch to flowering you can easily overfill the screen if you switch to flowering to early your screen wont be filled completly wich is still usually better than overfilled.
you can reduce veg time by running more plants and keeping a short screen height by using one plant per sq ft of screen and kepping the screen height to a minimum you can actually do most of your training after switching to flowering, versus running less plants where you would have to do more training during veg as each plant will have more screen area it has to fill.

Thanks for the words bejay. The thing that confuses this feeble mind, so easily done sometimes, is this; I wonder about scrogging with cfls. The distances of 8" to a foot would cause mad stretching under cfls. You're supposed to try to keep the plants around 2" from the lights. I have dreams of someday scrogging some clones from the grow I got going now. I got a cool screen and grand ideas on how I'm gonna work it all sort of ready to go, but I'm confused about that cfl and distance issue, so my grand planning hits a snag. Can it be done?

hmmmmm, david, i have not yet seen a successfull scrog attempt with only cfls(if anybody has any pictures please prove me wrong:D ),.......the reason why you dont really want to use cfls is because of the stretch, you will get tighter more compact buds with and HID. although its not impossible, if you were gonig to try it(we all support you here), i would have as many cfls as possible and as close to the plants as possible while making sure you train and tie down each budsite to a hole in the screen...good luck

im no fan of cfl's either and a hid will always out perform them but im sure you could do a scrog with flouros and have better results versus sog or other style of growing with flouros.
scrog was originaly used to get the best yield from low power lights whether it be flouros or a small hid.
as per the lighting and avoiding stretching you just leave the screen off and keep your lights within a couple of inches of the plants until they reach the screen height then you install the screen and you are basicly lighting the screen from then on, as you are training the plants to grow under the screen horizontaly instead of verticaly and all growth that isnt specifically used to fill in the screen is typically removed by cutting it off to allow better airflow through the screen this includes leaves and any branches you may of not used to fill the screen.

justaseed did a pretty good cfl scrog. Check post #35

However I would recommend an HID light. You will get more bud
