can u run a 250w hps in a 400w ballast?

could be a dumb question but I know little about HIDs.

I'm not totally sure, but i doubt it.

Absolutly not, dont do it, 1 of 2 things r going to happen, its not going to work and possably fry your ballast or it will blow up in your face.
