Something about how they are just tools for the plant (sugar factories, at that) so the plant can carry out photosynthesis. Only a main shoot has the necessary genetics to create roots. But you knew this already, man! ;) :D:D:D
Sorry, ronjohn420, but LOLOL...hehe
Check this out...Cloning a fan leaf PIC!
^^Look at post #8.
Just messin' witcha RJ420. I saw your recent flowering plant photos. Kickass.
:rasta:
TGF
Heh.
i'm not sure you cannot. It just might be very difficult or give low success rate. They clone flan leafs off other plants. and some plants reproduce that way (jade plants)
i want to try cloning a fan leaf
and no all cells in the plant have the DNA to create roots. Every cell has the same DNA except the gametes.
they may not have enough carbs stored to grow a sufficent root system or something. Theoreticaly you can grow an entire plant from one cell.
Hmmm. That would be an excellent solution, if it worked...
That was hilarious. lmao :D :stoned:Quote:

what happends is that a stem would grow off the leaf's little steam. and grow into a normal plant. It does this with other plants as i said. most cloning is done using leafs not growth tips (in other plants)Quote:

You are probably right. I said that because I saw faithlessxxx in the chat room and I think he asked about that there...or someone did. I just caught the tail end of the conversation and that was what I got out of it. BobBong had said something about the plant sheding tis fan leaves when it was done and didn't need them...somehow I probably misunderstood. Sorry for the misinformation. So it can be done, but it's probably hard...?
Then when you said the thing about the "one cell" being able to grow a plant, I remembered reading something about culture tests...like cell culture or something like that where they shave off a piece of the plant and just grow from that!
I did say "something like...blah blah blah..." so I didn't want to come across like I was 100% sure. :o
BUT, I think this would be a really tricky method to do and is mainly for preserving genetics and stuff. It sure would take a long time.
I think that cloning from a fan leaf would take longer too. Maybe if you had to slow down your grow to let other stuff catch up, that might be an idea.
I would also think that it would probably require a very controlled environment for this to be successful, and like harris7 said, the success rate would probably decrease. Hey, sh*t, try it faithlessxxx and let us know!
I still think it looks funny. :D
TGF
