Root pruning

Has anyone ever tried root pruning on there plants?

Root pruning is essentially the same as normal pruning. You cut off roots.

You do this because old roots which are very large do no take up anything.
They are just like large branches at the top of the plant, they are pathways for nutes/water

So you cut these large roots and whatever was attached just dies and the site of the cut grows lots and lots of new roots. This is done lots in gardening it increases root growth and creates a larger root ball.

I have been thinking about it and maybe the life cycle of cannabis is too short to see the benefit of this. As slowing growth for a week is a big deal for cannabis but not for a tree.

I would only consider root pruning a plant if I am trying to keep a mother or breeder male from getting out of control.

Otherwise, absolutely not. Big roots=big buds. You can even look up somewhere there's a yield-to-rootball ratio, but I totally forgot where I saw it.

yes root pruning increases the size of the root ball. When you cut a root it releases a hormone which stimulates root growth. The plant quickly replaces the roots you cut and over compensates creating more roots.

Why big roots, wouldn't having more surface area of root contact to soil be best.

big roots have very low surface area and the older roots dont do any absorbing

Yeah, fresh roots are great, but I would just repot into something bigger and give them a shot of B12. Too much stress IMO.

sumthing i do to make better roots is take the roots from my most recent plants, cut them up, put them in water and add it to a few of the oldest plants, works good! probably just as good as cutting the roots.. if not better ;)

really. so you are trying to use the hormones produced by the roots, on undamaged roots. hmmm

do you also use an enzyme to break down the roots too?
