If young seedlings are

Raised under 110 watts of flouresent grow tubes ,How long should they be under this light for before they are put under a 400 watt hps?

The plants in question are femminised white widow and are about 2 inch tall now and have been growing quickly for three days under this light on 16/8
do you grow them for four weeks like this and then put them under the hps bulb straight on 12/12 or do you let them grow so big and then put them under the hps for 18/6 for four weeks?:confused:

This will be the second ever grow [for my friend] using a hydroponic waterfarm a 400 watt hps carbon extactor fan maylar reflectors and ionics for nutes the grow room is now completly light proof and there will be just one plant growing to try and get the maximum yield

the only other question [my friend] has got is do you put the water farm on the floor or would it be better raised for emtying with the blue tube at the front

oh and do you just top the water nute mixture up or do you replace all of the mix once a week?

Ok, first off forget about the18/6 light cycle keep it on 24 hours, the plant dosent need rest if all the nutrients are supplyed to it without running out.

You dont want to switch to 12/12 light untill you are ready to bud/flower the plant, never do this untill the plant is large enought o be harvested.

You can use the HPS just dont have it too close to the plants , it will burn them up!

If you want to get the "maximum Yield" you should let your plant grow as large as you can contain it, 4 weeks is not enough time in Veg state to get the best amount of buds. you should let it grow for 2 monthes at least to get any good amount off it, if you try to Flower the cannabis too soon you will not get very many buds., they will be small and far and few between you might get a few joints thats it lol

as far as the hydro nutes go, follow the directions on the bottle,you definantly do not need to change it every week thats crazey, if for some odd reson it says that i would consider going to buy some better nutes lol. every few monthes 2 or 3.

Keep it on the floor, its going to be pretty heavy when full of water. what if it fell over and smashed your plants? or whatever you had it on broke? think about this stuff, A good start would be checking out some Hydroponic grow guides, or watch Mr. Greens Video "I Grow Cronic" a link to it is on the Hydro Messages Board and also on YouTube.com.

usually flourecents set right above the plants will provide enough light till 3 weeks of age then you should move them to under a hid for best results and after giving them a few days to adjust even the hid should be kept as close as possible without burning the tops of the plants for a 400 would expect it to be7- 12 inches or closer with an air cooled hood.
its common to change out the solution on a regular basis suggest you follow the hydropinic system recomendation for a starting point it may be every week or slightly longer like every 10 days. you can top it off with regular ph adjusted water in between nute changes.

ok my fellow brit well i allways start my seedings under 110 wat floros as soon as my true leaves apeared i plased them under 600w hps an a 250w hps in my grow room as for when to flower them it dont mater how old they are just make sure your plant is 12/18 inch tall i have add mutch success this way as for the nutes cant really help you m8 i grow in soil anyways good luck.

Actually for best results you would be much better flowering 4 when they are about 8,9 inches tall, that would be much beter use of your space and light.
i wouldn`t advise you grow them much taller as the light penertration with a 400 isn`t that great.
Plants have there bigest growth spert in the first 2-3 weeks of flowering i started when my grapefruit were 10inches and there over 4 foot now which is to big for reasons already stated.
You would be much better of flowering more than 1 believe me.

ive heard about leaving the lights on 24/24 but ive also been told that it stresses the plants i dont know of any natural habitat that gives twenty four hours sunlight
as for growing more than 1 plant , the last crop 4 plants produced 6 oz under 1 light ive been told many times that he would have got the same yield off 1 plant so thats what my mates goin to try
and im still unsure wether to do all the veg stage under the flouros or to wait till the seedlings are a bit bigger then put them under the hps 18/6 for a while then 12/12 after

Sorry dude but your mates wrong, its pritty simple for a start you`ve got at least 3 more tops were you get the best buds from.
If you got 6oz of dry bud from 4 last time thats good stick with it your doin good work.

I was led to belive by not only my friend but two local hydro shops that you could only get a yield in respective to the amount of light hence 4 plants are competing for light [under one 400 watt] but its quite possible to get 10oz from 1 plant under 1 light because its not competing for it
when you look at seed packets it gives you a yeild per square meter if 4 plants are taking the same space up as 1 plant they are fighting for space and light

there is more efficient ways of growing such as sog or scrog but really both require you to use clones to be done right but yield per meter sq should be a little better versus one large plant plus it doesnt take as much veg time wich frees up your flowering room to be able to do more harvest per year.

I dont think a little competition is a bad thing plants are used to it, i just can`t see it and im not sure yeild per square meter nesserserily means there is only 1 plant in each S/meter but i could be wrong.
But i am very interested to see so good luck and keep us posted
