i like cold water with crushed ice cubes in my bong.
but Thc is not water soluble so it can pass throught the water...not like say milk.
^ thats what makes it a filter.
No, it's a filter because it filters out carcinogens and other toxins found in the weed.
I don't know how it works. I'm assuming the molecules cling to some of the water molecules, but I don't know shit about chemistry. :)
The theory is that the heavier particles will stick to the water, and stay in the water, while the smoke will pass right through I believe. This isn't really all that true in practice as bongs don't filter out much carcinogens, and you'd have to show me a very convincing report that proves that warm water is a better filter than cold.
I really wanted to write because it gets you high, but I realized that wouldn't make much sense.
ok i just, last night smoked a full bowl on doubler, and that's big, and my throat was hurting really bad on the end of that bowl. i used cold water on that night. tonight i smoked 2 bowls of larger size and my throat felt much better while smoking. by the way i smoked all this by myself, and kept the bowl cherried, so i smoked a lot of smoke.
Use cold water to get smoother hits

The temperature of matter is dependent on the amount of energy in it. When you heat matter you add energy, when you chill it energy is removed.
Energy causes the particles that make up matter to move faster. The speed the particles move at determines the state of matter.
If you chill water the cold particles move slowly and clump together to form a solid (ice).
At room temperature waters particles move faster but still stay together and form a liquid.
Heat up water a lot and the particles will really move fast and form a gas (water vapor).
Warm water is a better filter for tar and toxins because the faster the particles move the better chance they have of dislodging tar particles from smoke.
ive had a cold recently with a very! sore throat, and ive found that cold water works best as long as you toke very lightly and slow.
first of all im getting over a cold/flu thing and i didnt smoke as much as i really wanted too...i didnt because id rather just save my strength for next weekend when i can have some quality time with the phx.
to answer your question though ive always thought of it like this.
with cold water yeah its cool...cold water..ice cubes..the works. and its a cold hit and all but ice makes me drool more haha and plus its fucking cold when your out in the garage.
with hot water though if you think of it...the "bad stuff" gets filtered in the hot water better because the bad stuff is closer in temp to the water.
toxins/carninogens are hot because of the smoke/fire to burn them so if the water is hot too...the transaction through the smoke is smoother.
bottom line is this. get your bong. smoke a bowl with cold water and ice. then smoke a bowl with really hot water. judge the difference for yourself.
