First grower needs opinions please :)
Hi guys i have some seeds that i`m going to "pop" and grow in a large wardrobe, but the strain i have is Mexican Sativa which can grow to 3m in height. How soon can i go to 12/12 and start flowering them to reduce such a massive height, i will LST to but would like some more ideas, or is this strain not good for the hieght limit i have which is 1.5 meters ?
Thanks in advance, will look forward to your input.
Regards.

what sort of light are ya gonna be using in that wardrobe
that will play a huge part in the hieght
you can flower at just 2 weeks if you are worried about the hieght issue
cheers all :)

Hi Busteruk7 i`m from the UK too, i will be using CFL lighting, i plan to use 3 6500k 65watt (equiv to 325w inc light) then 4 2700k for veg.

As your using cfls you will be able to use more of the height you've got as the lights don't need to be as far away as metal halides or hps, which i think was what buster was getting at, correct me if i'm wrong buster. As a rough guide i'd say most sativas will treble in height from when you start to flower, so if you veg till your plants around 0.4m it should finish around 1.2m giving you 0.3m to allow for your lights and a little distance between your plants. You should try to keep your lights within 5cm of the top of your plant. For your first grow you might want to be a little more conservative and flower around 0.3m. I'm in the uk too, where did you get the 65watt cfls?

Cheers Hudson i`ll try and flower them when they`re about 0.4m it will be interesting.

Hey gunge, just a little edit to when to judge the start of flowering, don't forget to allow space for the height of your pot, sorry i forgot to mention that! Those lights look pretty good, i looked at them when i was getting my lights a couple of weeks ago but decided to get a 125 watt envirolite for £20 instead and they do a 200watt for £40, i just figured it would save me wiring up loads of cfls, i've supplemented with a couple of cheap 20watt cfls but you can get them for around a £1 each. Just thought i'd mention it if you didn't know about the enviro's
Peace :rasta:

Enviro`s are ok but for £20 i will use the big 65w (325w equiv) CFL`s, 200w Envirolites and the 125w version only draw bettween 25 and 40 watts to give the equiv output of a incandescent. For £20 the lights i suggested have a better output than Envirolites.

You've been misinformed gunge, a 200watt envirolite draws 200watts, (check my grow link then tell me i've grown those two plants with 25watts ;) http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=83381) the 85watt light you suggested draws 85watts. The equivalent outputs you talk about are misleading and aren't really useful when talking about growing. It's just helpful if your changing a 100watt incadescent for an energy saver in your house and want the same level of brightness. I don't think there's really any difference between the lights your talking about and the envirolites, (watt for watt) there both cfl's at the end of the day, just down to personal preference.
