Ive grown the great cannabis plant in the past outdoors, but now i wanna indoors, my set up is :
a 3 feet tall 2 feet wide box type thing (im only vegging for a little while.)
1 100 watt heat lamp.
will this set up work or am i just tripping? all advice is appreciated!:rasta:
A 100 watt heat lamp is not going to work at all...heat lamps are typically only infared. You'd be better off with some 42w or larger compact fluorescents in the 6500 K spectrum range for vegging. Or better yet, obviously a HID lamp is better still but has ventilation requirements.
You can grow a good indica plant in that kind of grow space. As said previously go for some CFL lights. A heat lamp is very ineffective. For such a small place I would make sure you have some intake and outake fans available because the air can grow stagnant really fast.

If you are doing just 1 plant, the best you can get is a 250 watt HPS. It is a little expensive but you will pull off enough weed to last you a month or two depending on how much you smoke. 250 won't use an excessive amount of power and is perfect for one plant. If your going to do it - do it right.

Gotta disagree with tom, if you've only got 3 feet height to use you're gonna have problems with a hps, they've gotta be positioned further away from the plants than cfl's because of the heat they produce and you really don't wanna have 8-12" of your height wasted, with cfl's you'll probably have to allow 7" for fixing your lights and leaving a little space to the top of your plants, 8" for your pots, that leaves you 21" for your fully grown plant, which is kinda small but will still give you some decent bud, think about using a hps and having to reduce it's size by another 8-12" your gonna be left with only around a foot for your plant! And because you'd have to force flower so early it wouldn't be mature enuff to produce strong buds anyway and a 12" plant ain't gonna use 250 watts of hps light, it's just gonna be wasted. Get some cfls i'd say about 100 watts worth!

I'd say something like 200 watts worth of CFL's to get a good strong smoke.
It's worth it, if you really want it. But like someone else up there said do it right.

Hudson88, I didn't realize he had only 3 feet of space. Thanks for clearing this up. I would think flourecents then would be your best bet. Just make sure you use enough light. I have seen so many plants struggling under insufficient lighing and the end result is always small production.
