Hash is formed of resin heads of glandular trichomes shaken or rubbed from flowers, pressed together and shaped. Brown, dark brown and Black looking "bars" if you will. So basically hash is made from the stuff you see that looks like golf balls when a bud is zoomed up on or the crystals in your bud that you see if you look at it with a good light.

Jammers its pretty much what orange man said. But in other european countries they only smoke hash with tobacco, so you might be thinking of that
