I have used the soil that is similar to what you are talking about. It is a GREAT top soil additive but I have also found that it cana also be used in pots as well. However, the soil is very hot. It is great for outdoor grows. Potting soil is what I would reccommend though cause it is made for pots. I would add some soil additives with it so that the soil is full of nutrients for the plants to feast on.

I was under the impression that you are not suppose to fertilize the soil for the first couple of weeks? I use plain soil and then fertilize later.
I think top soil is heavier. If you can make it drain well with top soil, I don't see a problem using it. I like the water to run out of the pot seconds after adding water on top.
I wasn't talking about using fertilizer. There are soil additives you can use that help raise the soils N-P-K values. Two of the most common are Blood and Bone Meal. Another good soil additive is bat guano but guano is hard to get a hold of.

i see every one disagree with being naturally;being organic is there a problem with it or something!
The major difference between topsoil and potting soil is that topsoil virtually never contains a soil lightener, whereas potting soil comes pre-mixed with perlite.
Kush referred to that stuff as being 'hot'- that means too high levels of nutrients.
I've grown successfully in a 50/50 mix of composted manure and perlite, that's it. I got some burn at first, but nothing outrageous.
The last time I mixed soil, I used a bag of topsoil a friend had left over from her lawn, a bag of composted manure, and a bag of perlite.
So to make any soil into potting soil, you need to add perlite or vermiculite.
very good info,i appreciate that.thats good i didnt buy that shit.I bought some organic potting soil and it seems to be kind of on the heavy side ill go buy some, perlite that is,thanksQuote:
