"Bong Hits 4 Jesus" case - what a joke

Dunno how many of you have heard about this (I only did the other day). Seems a school district in Alaska suspended a student for holding up a banner reading BONG HITS 4 JESUS at an Olympic torch relay - an event not sponsored or supervised in any way by the school. The student was performing a totally legal act, expressing his right to free speech on his own time. And he got suspended.

As they should have, the student's family sued the school district and won. An appeals court sided with the student as well. Now, Kenneth Starr (of clinton-monica fame) has filed a petition to the Supreme Court of the US on behalf of the school district. I doubt they even CONSIDER looking at this case, and if they do, the appeals decision should be upheld by a wide margin.

... I mean, how can a public school district POSSIBLY claim the right to abridge students' right to free speech AWAY from school and on his or her own time??? You can say what you will about values, but I'm sorry; just because a person lives in a certain school district doesn't mean they must uphold the "values" of that school system twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY, never has, and never will!

second of all, my old high school got a bunch of kids suspended for a few games (of basketball or cheerleading or whatever) because on their myspaces they had pictures of them drinking. its so dumb. NCAA is the same way, they freak if you have questionable material on your facebook.:mad:

My school is exactly like that, if you get in trouble !*on school property*! for drinking/smoking its like one day OSS (out of school susupension). But if you get arrested/in trouble !*anywhere*! (including out of school) and they find out, you get kicked out of school for the rest of the year. My school adds fucking rules every year and gets more and more fucking gay EVERY YEAR!

This is exactly why I was suspended every day, expelled every year for terms, kicked out of class, even physical fights with school staff.

I still got through every year passing my shit because I was offered to challenge tests at the end of the year to pass the subjects, and I aced em, making my final marks 50-65% every time. I wasn't a stupid kid either, I was in advanced reading and math classes until I started to rebel against the system. I openly admitted when I was high in class, and told them when I was smoking weed. Fuck em.

My last term of my last senior year, I was expelled permannently from the last highschool in the city (there were only 3), and I couldn't graduate, so I challenged the GED and passed all 4 subject tests with 95% or over.

Been 3-4 years since then now, and I am 22 and rich. I met the councilor from my old highschool a few months ago, he always used to tell me I'd be a failure if I kept smoking the weed and pissing off teachers. I told him how much I made per year and he said, "Oh wow! You are doing well for yourself, I always knew you would." LOL Fake fucker.

Fuck high school.
