I'm wanting to start a grow inside of two 21gal (24" x 16" x 20.1") stacked rubbermaid tubs coated in aluminum foil. Total I'd like to grow four plants hopefully yielding atleast an ounce per plant for a nice smoking stash for me and my buddies. I originally had some grandiose plans of growing 28 some plants under shoplights but I was informed it wasnt going to be a reality. I was wondering how many CFL bulbs I would need to provide sufficient lighting.

Do I need more space to cultivate four 1oz yielding plants? Can I pull this off? Any help is appreciated in advance.

I would go to Lows if you have one in your area. Look for the U2 wall mounting cabinet, about $30, $40. It doesn't come with a back, because it is a wall mount cabinet, they will cut a peace of plywood for you for under $15 I would think. Get 5 or 6 light sockets for $3 a peace. Then pick up CFL lights for the sockets, I believe that they carry up to 42w. Get some 3000K, or 2500k for Flower and 6500k, or 5000k what ever they have close for veg. Get a bathroom fan for $50, to $ 80, the more CFM the better, see how to make a home made scrubber on the FAQ. Get a bag of soil, one that is easy to find and fairly cheep like Black Gold. Mix with perlight, 30 percent perlight and 70 Black Gold, you can use it for first 3 weeks or so by itself without added ferts. Line the inside of the cabinet with the emergency blankets from Wally Mart for a few bucks or the dull side of foil. make some passive intake holes in the bottom of the cabinet under the bottom spacer/rim of the cabinet, put some PVC piping threw the holes which are there to allow fresh air in, place 90 degree elbows on the ends of the pipe under the cabinet to help act as a light trap. Look for black piping if at all possible, because it inhibits the light reflection. Also, put some black pantyhose on the ends of the PVC, this will help stop more light and prevent dust and bugs from being pulled threw the passive intake.
These are just some suggestions, something to think about. You could probably get 3 skinny 2 foot plants in it, or 2 bushier plants, or 2 plants in scrog with a nice yield depending on exp, or a sog of about 6 plants.

PS, this is not a completely detailed plan, so research my plans because there are other things to consider like light proofing the cabinet, fitting the weatherstripping, heat, size of pots that can fitt inside and the small things that we all over look at the first glance of a plan.

first off the size of the box is ok, for reflectivity i would HIGHLY recommend you NOT use Foil for lining the box. for Foil conducts heat and WILL burn your babies if they even get that far. I would go with Myler or Flat White paint. paint is cheaper but Myler IMO is more effective.

Second 4 plants will be impossable to grow and oz per plant. maybe an eight per. i would recommend 2 plants in that box with LST and Scrog to get max yeild. which will depend on strains, genetics, TLC and Enviroment.

For lighting. rule of thumb is 50wpsf - 60wpsf for veg, and 65wpsf - 75wpsf. IMO more lights the better. just remember to keep the lights NO FURTHER then 2 inches away from the top of your babies. ALSO, don't you will need a couple PC fans to keep the inside of the box at a constante 75 - 80 Degrees. i suggest a 1 or 2, 120 mm PC Fans for a passive intake and exhuste (fan on bottom pushing air in one on top blowing air out, depending if your box runs hot or not) the fans will also help make provoke a stronger plant.

Ive been growing in 2x 30g rubbermaids (15w X 27L X 15D each) i got 2 boxes one for Veging one for Flowering. 175w Veg box 250w Flowering box. i grow 2 plants at a time to get a oz and half depending on strain.
