Companion Planting Ideas for Next Season

Well, next Spring will be my first shot and growing, and I'll be starting off outside, in pots. Most likely the 5 gallon pots will be mobile until the gender is determined, and then buried in the ground after that point. I already have the perfect spot in my backyard herb garden and it's quite roomy.

So I was going through what I have growing today, picking off caterpillars, watering, spraying with some insecticidal soap where needed, the usual garden chores. And I was thinking that I really would like to plant some companion plants around my grow next year. Partially to camo the plants and partially to help them. And then I got to my Datura that I have growing out there. It's gotten very large, it's in the ground and reaching up to 3.5 feet now and hasn't even started flowering.

What struck me is that out of the dozens upon dozens of various herbs I have growing... datura is the one that I have that I never have to pick off caterpillars. Never have I seen ANY aphid or spider mite on it. That is the one herb that I have that is virtually bug free with no effort on my part. They seem to want to steer very clear of it. And then it also occured to me that the flowers that bloom on it are very fragrant. Smell camo. The seed pods smell fetid and awful though... but another smell camo. They are annuals as well, and require the same amount of watering and sunlight as cannabis. So... I think I'm on to something as a good companion plant but just wanted to throw this idea out to see if anyone has heard anything bad (Or good) about using Datura as a companion plant.

I should add, the toxic parts of datura is in the seeds (and flowers depending on the variety) which have to be made into a tea or directly consumed to get the effects, so I don't think that should be an issue just growing next to the cannabis.

I should add one more thing... the herbs growing directly next to the datura are also pest free.
