turning yellowish on exposed perlite

Would it be normal for the perlite thats on the surface of the pot [the exposed stuff] to be turning color? pick those pieces of perlite up and they are white underneath, is it the light thats turning them color possibly? or could it be some sort of fungus? dont have pics, sorry

nah its from the water, perlite just does that after a few months of waterings.
