Need to cut some holes...............

OK, here is the deal. I basically built an 8'x8'x90" room inside of a spare room. It is very airtight, will be well vented using Vortex fans, sound-proofed, insulated, own wiring and panel box, blah blah blah.

Now, I have two 1000watt HPS lights. Super Sun 2 with the sealed hood. Of course I am going to use two 6 inch fans, one to blow air in the first light, the other to suck out the second light and then blow out of the room. (its my understanding those fans both suck and blow) They will have their hood vents connected via insulated duct in the middle.

Now, my question is this, how high would you folks suggest I cut my holes on my side walls for my fresh air in, and hot air out? Or is that something we could debate for the next 2 years and nobody would ever agree?

My concren is keeping the supply/exhaust lines as level as possible while maintaining the ability to raise/lower lights based on the characteristics of what strain I am growing. Less resistance with no bends, etc etc etc......You know where I am comming from. I want excellent ventilation so I can keep lights closer and get every lumen possible.

Or..............could I put a 90 degree elbow on each fan and just cut them near the top of the room. Up against it here folks, any input would be appreciated. (no that would not work on intake side..........damn)

I have seperate room to veg in using MH, and they would be going in this room at 14-18" for 12/12 til done.

I guess ultimately what I am trying to be able to do is have the best setup possible no matter if growing an Indica or Sativa.

ok man get to answer the first question as im sure you know hot air rises so the colder air is down lower so your intake i would cut fairly low down now the dissadvantage to that is dust and stuff from the ground can get sucked in now with sealed shields i dont think that will make much difference then i would cut the one for your outake higher up dont worry about keeping things level man its gonna cause you more headaches than anything just make sure to use a bit longer piece of ducting than is needed just to be safe i hope this helped a bit

I have always used a hole in the ceiling for venting, as it normaly vent heat, with a high temp fan that comes on when the plant height get to a set point.
The in take is used to pressureize the room due to the exust normal drag.
If you note my intake box , with light blockers, filters.
You kill a few birds at the same time, clean air in, pollen stoped with the hepa filter and positive pressure to push out any leaks in the door jam, seals.
It has worked for decades, with out failure.
The only problem was a person came with mites from his crop. You can also vent to the grow room and scavange the co2. This has a added effect that the clone section is kept at around 80 d.f.
Note with 2 kw of lamps your going to need a good vent fan,, and a good controler , attic vent works great.
I never had much luck using hps for bloom in test at a few sites. Try them both and see what happens. YOU will be suppised , with tight firmer, better weight.

Thanks for the input. My plan is to use a 6 inch for intake, and a 10" for exhaust in the room. I read you should use a fan at least 1.5 times the intake for the exhaust. I am tying into an 8 inch duct pipe that is already attached to roof vent. House is 2 story and no close neighbors, so my odor probs should be addressed.

My 1000 watt HPS's have the sealed hood. I will be bringing in fresh air with one vortex, blowing thru both, and exhausting into same roof vent pipe with second vortex fan. So my heat should be controlled also.

As for bulb choices, I can use either if I feel I want to experiment. My lights have digital ballast and will run either, plus they use less juice. Little more in the beginning, but they will pay for themselves over time.

I like the idea of the added CO2 from the veg room. That is something I will think over and seriously consider.
