Can a more experienced grower tell me what to expect from this mix
Growing outdoors. NOrthern exposure right now about 15 hours of light.
(plants are about 10 weeks old today)
The plants are in 5 gallon plastic buckets with large finger sized holes punched into the bottom for drainage. 1 plant per bucket.
Soil mixture is = 1/4 Miracle Gro potting soil, 1/4 dried horse manure
and 1/2 pea gravel. It seems to drain well.
I'm watering them with nothing but rainwater and distilled water from the supermarket, every 4 days or so and I mist the leaves every other day with distilled water.
I am not putting in any other fertilizer.
So far they're up to the 6th nodes of 7-bladed fan leaves.
fair number of "armpit hair" auxillary stalks. about 1 foot tall.
So....what does everyone think? I've never heard of anyone using this combination of SOIL ...probably because horse manure isn't readily available to just anyone, probably because it's a horrible idea and I'm going to get a crop of male burn victems, I don't know....
Anyone??

my understanding, horse manure is too hot even to use for tomatoes ... steer manure is better ... with the horse manure, Miracle Gro soil, etc, you won't have to add nutes until the flower phase, and then, you 'may' experience less flowering because of all the residual nitrogens in the soil ... but, it might grow like a real sumbitch, too ... ya just never know, because its a WEED ... :D

I predict they will burn and die off before they finish. Lets see who is right. I hope I am NOT right but MG and then other nutrients. That is the wrong amount at the wrong time in the plants life cycle and there is no way to correct it other then to replant them and not use MG potting soil and give them the proper nutrients at the proper time in the plants cycle.
I do wish you luck and I do hope i'm wrong.
Next time use the proper soil mix and proper nutrients and your yield will be better, larger, and even taste better at the end.
One other problem with MG dirt is you can't flush at the end so you end up smoking nutrients you can't get out.

Sorry to say, I have to agree with Zandor.
Doesn't manure need to be treated before it is used anyway?
Or at least aged a little?

lol
ilove you...
well.. you are fine...please post pictures and do not add any fertilizer... if you have 6 nodes and no burning then you have cleared the danger zone...
you may end up with a ph problem because miracle grow is 5.0 ph...
keep us posted...

The manure should be aged for real! You gonna have to compost it,or find an old stable where the manure is dry.Cow manure is the more neutral. But if you can getta aged horse and a lil' cow BAM! you got the shit!
Holla!

I wasn't expecting Zandor (my favorite mod) to reply. As much as I'd like to be a maveric and stick it out at my babies expense, I'm electing to flush and re-pot the crop. They're now in regular potting soil with a pH of 6.9 , no manure. (BTW, it was thoroughly composted.) Same proportion of gravel again, too. 3 more nodes of 7,8 and 9 bladed fans since last post BTW, I still hope I haven't traumatized them into maleness, we will see when they start flowering if they do.

The mental image I'm getting from your pot has nothing whatsoever to do with manure but funny as shit.
