which males?

This may have already posted, but couldn't find anyhting about it....

Let's say you had some females and same males, and you wanted to seed out one of the females. What male plant would you want to use to pollenate? What are the best characteristics [in the males]? Does it matter?

You dont have to worry about that. Unless your not trying to pollinate the whole plant, male plants will burst their own pollen sacs and spread the pollen them selves so you dont have to worry about that. But if your just trying to pollinate a few buds you dont have to worry about getting a male with the best characteristics. If you bought some seeds that you like in the first place and the male has made it to it's pollen spreading stage and is healthy then there is nothing more to desire for a healthy male plant.

The best way to pollinate just say, one branch, so you still get bud to smoke AND seeds would be to get a big baggie, get the pollen in the baggie and put it over a branch for a few hours, then take it off and carry on flowering. BUt always be careful cos you could end up with no bud at all.

Picking a male is as important as picking the mother if you want quality.

I use the scratch and sniff test to find a good male. Beyond the required point the plant must look healthy, have good structure, node spacing and good color.

You can check about 2-3 weeks into flower for a hint into what the odor-flavor of that plant will be. Rub the stem above the wooded area where it is pliable but not new growth. You will find the chemical signature of the plant there. You can taste it with your tong on your fingers and give it a good smell too.

You should test more then once a day and make sure you donâ??t smoke or eat before you test or that will affect the outcome. It takes about a week or more to find just the right male to make a good cross checking at different times in the day.
