I was in my Wal*Mart and saw a 175 watt Mercury Vapor Bulb 4 $4.75USD and a Light fixture 4 $22.97USD...
Will a Mercury Vapor light work for a indoor grow??? If so what are the +'s & -'s of this sort of light...
Thanx

I bought one of those for my first grow. It's expensive to use, but since I have it installed in my current room I still use it. They are used for the seedling and vegetative growth stages of your plant. They can also be used for flowering. Mercury Bapor lights have been almost replaced by Metal Halide lights. You can get up to 8,000 lumens from one bulb.
I'd start looking toward CFL bulbs for the vegatiative stage as they cost a fraction to run compared to one MV bulb. Then you'll need better light to get good buds in the flowering stage. I went the HPS route.
Have fun!
I was thinking along the lines of what you said... I already have fluorescents, but thought I could somehow cut the cost of HPS...Quote:

There's enough charts on the boards, i cant be bothered to find one, but MH/HPS are better then MV
Thanks Lip,,,I was being lazy,I have searched the subject now... I haven't started the grow yet,I bought some indoor plants and flors's,I am in green thump trial mode right now...
