Hello people.
This is my second time growing, the first time failed miserably after transplanting to a larger pot.
I was wondering why can't I just start growing in a large pot to save the hassle of transplanting. I keep hearing people say "but they are happier in a small pot to start off with". BOLLOCKS. They don't start off in a small pot when they grow naturally in the wild, and they've been doing fine for century's.
Please give me your opinions on this, thankyou.

i say start em off in a big pot,ive done the same,im on my first grow indoors and transplanted from 5 1/2" pots into 5 litre tomato pots on sunday and already have roots showing through the drain holes in the pots :mad: next time im deffo startin of in a pot big enuff for its life time,i dont want to cause more stress by transplantin them again to a bigger pot although i reckon im gonna have to within a week or 2
I honestly dont see how the plant would know if the pot is a small or big one unless it crowded the pot out, then it would know it was too small. I would say use a bigger one. The only thing is you might have a harder time getting the water and nutes right at first, but it sure beats transplanting it later.
do you reckon id have to transplant again seen as there are some roots showin from the drain holes?
I'm no pro pal, but it would seem the right thing to do
I transplant mine once, not even transplant really. I start them in jiffy pots until they are good and strong looking and then I drop the jiffy pot into a pot that is big enough to hold them until finish. The smaller pots do make it easier to water small plants that dont have deep roots initally, but the roots will grow deep quickly. If space is a consideration, then keeping the plants in small pots until the can be sexed and seperated is far more space saving then having 20-30 1 gallon pots for 2" plants that about 1/2 of them will be tossed out.

the reason people start them off in small pots is for a more even root distribution.
You could transplant or you could carefully remove the bottom of that pot and put it into a bigger one with soil. This way the plant's roots can grow into the new grow space without the stress of transplanting.Quote:

Ive tried 6 seeds (2 seeds at different times with different methods) and left them for upto a week and no results.
Can seeds become useless after a certain amount of time???
Do I need to leave them longer???
It usually dosn't even crack the seed for me untill after 24hrs. If you leave them wet for an hour or more, and then they dry out, I'd say there's a big chance they're gonna be useless. I put them in a wet paper towel, put that in a baggy and just set it in the attic (it's nice and warm and dark up there). I come back in 2-4 days and everything is ready to go. 100% germination rate if it's done right.
