Floros are filled with mercury vapor, the spectrum of light it emits is controlled by a phosphor coating that converts the UV and blue to a useable wavelength. Are you gonna use a floro, with a mercury vapor? (like a security light?) or just a floro? (since they are mercury vapor) sorry got myself confused. You can use a mercury vapor light, but at the very least; get a coated bulb, the clear MV's don't provide a great spectrum for growing, the coated ones are like 4000k(color temps that is), clear are 5900k (way too blue, works for vegatative gowth however, but get coated). dont go and buy a MV light and fixture (unless you already have one); metalarc or metal halide (scandium vapor) lights and fixtures are twice as much, but put out WAY more light for the $$ and are a better spectrum. If down the road you want more, you can upgrade to high pressure sodium, they do work the best for output-$$.
