What reason should i tell the doctor for medical use?

This is an important question

PLEASE DONT FLAME ME!!!

Currently i have Bipolar, sleep apnea, migraines, and diabetes...

I will be going in next week for an evaluation for medical marijuana

Now dont jump to a conclusion.. i am a pothead but i do see it helps my depression.. i have a fear of big crowds and i dont want to go out a lot"atleast when i was younger" and ever since smoking i began to express myself more and such making new friends blah blah
For my diabetes... well I was above border lined diabetic...this was a year ago when i was under the diabetic note for the doctor to see and now he sees nothing wrong.... my sugar levels are quite good... something like 115/75
and for migraines they still come and go quite frequently but wheni`m high they still come around but it hurts but it doesnt.. i think about them then i just move on to something else...
For my bipolar"Some of you can tell me that depression is part of bipolar i but theirs a difference i think" i have been less aggitated lately even when sober i tend to not be so pissed off so much and when i`m baked i feel like not screaming or being pissed off at all...

And for sleep apnea.. i am diagnosed at the severe level.. and i got my tonsils and adnoids out like 2 months ago and it only made it worst... so i told my mom that marijuana helps me put me to sleep and she didnt beleive me so i smoked a j in front of her and went to sleep and woke up 8 hours later feeling extremely good and so she told me i could get med cannabis..


Anyways.. what i`m trying to say is... i`m wondering what i should go with for my symptoms here...


I`m not asking anything else

Just what do i tell the doctor? All the symptoms or just like the major ones like sleep apnea and migraines... or what?

I dunno i`m nervous cause if i dont qualify that fucker charges 150 and doesnt refund....

Any ideas what i should say...

That was a really good link, PsychoBud. I'm going to keep that on hand,and I just showed it to my husband, who's a doctor who believes med mj ought to be legal in Texas, too.

Eshelmen, after you've read the content on that link, my husband said just keep in mind when you go see the doc that you'll probably want to be asking for med mj for some of the symptoms that it's traditionally prescribed for as opposed to bringing up the whole list of your ailments and asking for med mj for all of them.

That is, emphasize, perhaps, that you have nausea and vomiting with the migraines that hasn't been helped by other methods. Nausea and pain are some of the tradition, tried-and-true symptoms that most docs know can be aided by mj. Whereas bipolar and diabetes and, for that matter, sleep apnea might be reasons a doc would be hesitant to prescribe.

Oh, I know apnea and diabetes are fully considered disabilities and that the ADA has you covered. That was never in question. What my husband was saying, and he knows what he's talking about since he prescribes stuff for folks all day long, is that a doc, particularly a very traditional-minded one, might be apt to hesitate about prescribing weed for those two problems (diabetes of apnea) in particular whereas he'd be more open to it for the other problems like migraines and pain and nausea.

With diabetes, there's a good bit of evidence that grass doesn't play well with blood sugar and tends to drive it down. There are even several posts about that on here. It causes a hypoglycemic plunge in lots of folks. So a doc who knows that might not want to prescribe anything that'd be likely to make your glucose fluctuate more than it already does. And with sleep apnea, a lot of docs are opposed to any sort of inhaled smoke when someone's already having nighttime airway/breathing difficulties and possible low oxygen as a result. Even though most folks who've been diagnosed are on a CPAP device and are fortunately getting clear airflow through their airways at night, doctors still widely regard smoke as an irritant to the airways. Of course, you could always tell him you intend to use it for apnea but not smoke it . . . .

All that's a long way of explaining why he was encouraging you to play up the other symptoms instead of asking for med mj specifically for diabetes or apnea. He knows how other docs tend to think.

don't forget... yes smoke is an irritant to the airway but that's what vaporizers are for. Anyone have any info about medical use in Canada? I'm also bipolar and have suffered from anxiety and severe migraines as well as scleroderma (a connective tissue disease which I was being treated for with photo-chemotherapy last fall). I decided that I was through with all the chemicals and prescriptions so I stopped taking everything about 8 months ago and I feel great. Weed works much better to stabilize my mood than any SSRI, the only anxiety attack I've had in a year was when I stopped smoking for a few days and my migraines are pretty much nonexistant. I went into remmission from scleroderma despite stopping the treatments early. Marijuana is my miracle cure (along with positive thinking and a relatively limited knowledge of but much interest in quantum physics and meta-physics). I would definitly suggest that you play up the bipolar and migraines though, it's probably your best bet.

diabetes and migranes are both on the list for receiving a license in nevada and would think the same for california...

i used to have really bad migranes last year. im 15 now, and they seem to come in spurts. does anyone think this would be reason enough to apply for a card?
btw i can live with the headaches, i just like weed. :]
