hey everyone, so my bong that i got from a local "Mary-Janes'' is about 18'' tall and it has a problem with resin collecting above its ice notch...I bought a bong buddy and it doesnt quite do the job...any tips? I would try boiling the mofo but its kinda big lol. If anyone needs help with cleaning their own bongs and pipes post here you'll likely get help.

There's a product out called Formula 420. I found it at the local head shop and it works GREAT! Good luck.

Sorry to steal the thread but I was wondering something similar. If I were to boil MY bong, would it harm or damage any rubber seals? I've tried to disassemble my bong but it just doesn't wanna pull apart and I'm scared of breaking even though the main chamber is 3.5mm Pyrex and the downpipe is metal. I failed to remove any resin shit with hot water last night, but it wasnt boiling. Thanks for any help.

There's a good chance you would reck the seals. I know Buna-N rubber is rated for top temps of 200 degrees farenheit and since the boiling point is 210....you'll probably see damage.Quote:

I'm actually going to post a step by step guide on what I've found the best way to clean bongs and bubblers on another thread- but here are a few ideas: (I had a 3 foot triple perc with a built in ice catcher, I feel your pain!)
- I don't recommend boiling ANY of your glass pieces as the boiling point of water can weaken glass. God knows your friends tossing it around like a roofie victim is bad enough!
- I've tried a lot of bong solutions out there. I've found one part salt, one part dish washing soap, and one part rubbing alcohol does the trick just as well as any bong cleaner out there, just as fast.
(Make sure to be generous with the salt when cleaning an extra filthy piece)
Keep in mind you're trying to use the salt to knock the resin from the inside of your piece. You don't want a ton of water, you want enough - but just keep this in mind when measuring your salt/water. (I'll give you my recipe when I post the actual thread)
- If you're cleaning a bong, clog the stem with toilet paper. Make sure you block that stem like a dam. Now all you do is put your hand over the mouth piece and shake like crazy! Your hand should be at each end of your bong holding it firmly)
- If it's a pipe, clog the carb, bowl, and mouthpiece. Now grab your pipe in such a way that you can keep pressure on 2 of the 3 largest holes. If the paper towel refuses to stay in the last hole, go ahead and use two hands but be careful not to snap your piece while shaking it.
**IMPORTANT** Please be incrediby careful when shaking your bong with a slippery substance inside of it. DO NOT shake it harder/faster than you need too. This is not a "test your limits" game. Bong heaven is full enough.
You may have to let the liquid fall up and down quite a few times to get the gunk out of your bong depending on how filthy it is.
Possible Bong Cleaning Dance Moves:
"The Hourglass" - Hold your bong out in front of you, one hand at each end.
You should start with your right hand on top and your left hand on bottom, or vice versa if you're not right handed unlike me :) Now with moderate speed, flip your bong and let all of the fluid rush to the bottom while giving it a little shake. Repeat until your bong returns to her normal color.
"Slip N' Slide" - Hold your bong in front of you and on it's side, right or left hand on the mouthpiece. (whichever is dominant OR feels more comfortable and I say this so you don't break your baby!) Gradually start shaking your hand like a piston, left and right, left and right, right and left, change it up a little bit and turn on some music beforehand! Repeat until your lady leaves her black insides in a trail of tar water!
I'm also experimenting with various seran wraps and methods which will be quick, cheap, and easy to cover the holes and keep the liquid inside!

Quality of the bong is a huge factor here. The cheaper the bong, the more likely the seals are to break under high temperatures - especially in the acrylic bongs. When my bong seal was fubar I got an industrial bearing seal to replace it - no problems yet - and my bong goes in the dishwasher.
