About to start a garden... need advice

my friends and myself are in the process of building a new hydro garden.
It's going to be an air pump system

It's going to be 12 ft. long and 8 ft. wide and 1.5 ft. deep,with one plant for each square foot.

how much lighting are we going to need?

and what kind of lights would you suggest.
I already have a 600 watt high pressure sodium light but I think Im going to sell it to make money for more better lighting.

any suggestions?
