Passports and US security

'Sup buddays :dance: ? Long time no speak.

I'm leaving on a magical adventure of self discovery with a friend of mine around the world in about a months time. Unfortunately (but unsurprisingly), our stop-off in LA on the way to Canada is the only issue concerning my passport. We'll be stopping overnight in LA (just a night, I don't wanna get shot before I see the Rocky's :p ) but apparently a new law has been passed which means I may need to get a new, updated passport to land in the US. Hahaha, isn't that ridiculous :dance: ?

So anyway, I don't actually know what the deal is. Can anyone on here help me out with my predicament? Do I need a new passport to land in the US this year, despite having been there just last February?
