When people talk abot wattage on a CFL you hear that it can be a true 42 watter meaning that it takes 42W to power it and it puts out 150W Does this same principle go for HPS, LPS, and MH bulbs, for example if you have a 250W HPS bulb does it require 250W to power it and put out a different amount?

That is only for CFL's.. "THEY" are trying to show you how much energy you are saving...

But you dont go to equivilent light. You go on actual wattage of the CFL itsself.

i see so if i bought a 250W HPS then i'll be drawing 250W out of the wall with a ballest or actually 120V out of the wall that is transformed to 250W?

Ok, a 250W HPS will pull 250W from your house.

CFLs (as gK said, Cheap Fucking Lights), have two numbers. The big number, is that wattage they're comparable to regarding an incandescent bulb. The lower number, is the actual consumption of the bulb.

If the CFL is 42W, and the big number is 150W, then it will pull from your house 42W. Don't use your 150W number in your calculations... it means jack-shit for us growers.

ok i as just making sure i mean i knew that it pulled 42W from the house but wasn't sure about other bulbs like if they have that useless number liek the CFL's have like the 150W output
